I have been teaching English and coaching track for nineteen years. As an English teacher, I have taught a variety of subjects at the high school level, including English Composition, AP Language and Composition, American Literature, British Literature, African-American Literature, and Introduction to Literature. I am an excellent proofreader and editor who is highly skilled with helping students to edit and revise essays, identify and correct grammatical mistakes, expand their vocabulary, and gain confidence in their writing voice. While I love teaching, I believe that the one-on-one environment of tutoring provides a much better atmosphere for learning, as the individualized instruction directly benefits the student. As a graduate student many years ago, my primary graduate assistantship involved working as a writing tutor five hours a day, helping undergraduates with their essays on all subjects. That was the most enjoyable work I've ever done. In my classes over the years, I have helped numerous students with SAT and ACT prep, particularly with the writing and reading sections. Though I have worked primarily with high school students over the years, I feel fully capable that I can be of much assistance to middle school and elementary school students as well.
As a track coach I have also been working for nineteen years. My specialty areas are the sprints and hurdles. I have coached some of the best hurdlers to ever come out of Wake County. My strengths are my ability to identify and correct technical flaws, develop drills and workouts to improve sprinting and hurdling mechanics, developing workout plans that can enable athletes to peak during at the appropriate time. I am also a very good communicator and I highly value forming meaningful bonds with my athletes. I have been teaching English and coaching track for nineteen years. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
For the past 19 years, I have taught high school English, helping students to become better writers. As a graduate assistant in college, I worked as a writing tutor, helping students with their writing assignments for all types of classes.
