I am in currently finishing my 15th year of teaching. I taught 1st grade this past year using mostly the ABeka curriculum for reading/phonics and math. I have experience teaching every grade from Pre-K to 2nd, as well as coaching 3rd to 5th graders for Girls on the Run. In addition to teaching, I have tutored kindergarten students (also helping them with homework), 1st graders, and 2nd graders. I truly enjoying the early childhood age range. I love to read in my free time and math and reading are my two favorite subjects to teach. I will do my best to help your child succeed.
My bachelor's degree is in English from Houghton College (with minors in math and family studies). My master's degree is in Early Childhood Education (birth - grade 2) with a literacy emphasis. I am currently NC certified in Birth-Kindergarten. I have 7 years experience teaching reading with ABeka phonics and have also taught reading using the Reader's and Writer's Workshop models.
I look forward to hearing from you soon and can answer any questions you may have. Our granddaughter is very cautious of new people but immediately trusted Wendy. I could tell a difference after the first lesson. Our granddaughter is more confident already in her ability to read. Wendy is teaching with the same curriculum she is learning in school.
Excellent! She very paitent and thorough and takes her time making sure my daughter understands what is being taught . I feel really fortunate to have found her and to see my 1st grader progress!
I can tell a difference in Jayden where he is sounding out words and asking more questions and his report card this time was an improvement from last quarter.
She was very Professional and very personable. She is Very knowledgeable of reading. My son enjoys going to see Ms. Wendy.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am in my 13th year of teaching. I have experience in every grade from Pre-K to 2nd. My bachelor's is in English (since I love to read) and my master's is in Early Childhood (birth - 2nd).
My master's is in Early Childhood. Cursive is my favorite way to write. I am happy that the school I'm at still teaches it. I would use some of Handwriting Without Tears materials to tutor, as I especially like that they have consistent wording to go along with each letter.
I am in my 5th year of teaching phonics using ABeka curriculum, which is a very systematic approach to phonics. It is also the method that I was taught with, so it's been around for quite some time and typically produces strong readers. I have my master's in Early Childhood.
