I am a graduate from Clemson University, where I received my bachelor's degree in mathematics. I learned how much I really loved math while at Clemson. I knew I had always enjoyed it growing up, but when I was at Clemson, I began tutoring and helping other students in subjects such as calculus 2. I really enjoyed helping others, and learned quickly that I had the skills to explain problems in ways that would help the students learn the material. After just my first year of tutoring at Clemson, I was selected as the SI Leader (supplemental instructor) of the year. However, the best part of the job for me was not winning an award, but seeing the students come to me after an exam, excited about the grade they got. The reason I tutor is to help students succeed.
I specialize in Algebra 1 and 2, Calculus, Geometry, Trigonometry, and SAT Math Prep. My goal in each session is to address the area that the student is struggling in and work from the ground up. I assess what the student knows and how much background math they are familiar with, and use this to build their confidence in learning their new material. I want them to know that they can succeed and show them how much they already know, while also helping them learn the new material. Math is a subject that builds on itself, and that is why I help them see the connections and build upon what they already know.
I want students to do well, and that is why I push myself to be my very best each and every time I meet with a student. I ask for feedback so that I can learn to be better and modify my tutoring approach to best help the students.
To make sure that students are always comfortable and in a good studying environment, I only meet in a quiet, public location. I am will to travel to meet students and make it more convenient for them!
I look forward to working with you and helping you achieve your goals of success in mathematics!
