About Kristy

I currently work in Higher education at CPCC and have professionally mentored students at UNCC, for which I am certified. My previous employment also includes working for the Greater Enrichment after school Program in Charlotte where I aided students with their homework and assisted and lead physical education activities, arts and crafts and creative play for math, English, and science subjects. I was also employed as tutor for GEP assisting K-2 students in Language Arts. I am currently maintaining a 4.0 GPA in my graduate studies and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0 GPA from UNCC's Anthropology program.

I absolutely love tutoring and/or mentoring because it brings me joy to see the look on a student's face when they meet or exceed their goals. I believe academic success is not measured in A's and B's, but by the confidence students gain by improving their academic performance overall. I also believe tutoring should be a process of encouragement, praise and fun in a supportive environment.

I am currently pursuing an 18 credit English concentration as part of my Master's degree and writing is one of my strongest academic pursuits.

I am currently employed as an academic advisor at CPCC so I am extremely well versed in the requirements for college and the transfer process for NC colleges.

I am a voracious reader and writer in my spare time and my academic experience is Language art/humanities based.

My academic career is steeped in the Liberal Arts tradition which fosters critical thinking, free flowing ideas and is humanities based. I offer learning assessments and study skills in addition to time management, motivational and self exploration activities. Please contact me so we can work together to help you achieve your academic goals!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anthropology

My undergraduate major was in Anthropology, with a concentration in Applied Anthropology. I excelled in my studies, being inducted in the Anthropology honor society and graduating with a 4.0/4.0 GPA.

Archaeology

Archaeology was my sub-field specialization within my Anthropology major. I have also taken additional Archaeology classes at the graduate level as well as attended an archaeological field during my undergrad studies.

Classics

I minored in Classical Studies as part of my undergraduate degree, graduating with a 4.0 in all my courses.

College Counseling

I am currently employed full time at CPCC as an academic advisor. I work in First Year Advising so I am well versed in acclimating students to college, helping them with the high school to college transition and I am knowledgeable about the transfer process to universities in North Carolina.

Reading

I am currently pursuing an 18 credit concentration in English as part of my master's degree and am an avid reader myself.

Study Skills

I have achieved Level II International Mentor Training Certification from the College Reading and Learning Association through my employment as a peer mentor at UNCC. Part of this training consisted of administering learning style assessments, interpreting the assessment and providing study skills based on the individual's learning style and need.
