I have always enjoyed working one-on-one with high school and college students. Students have told me that I am very patient, and explain concepts in a way that they can understand. As a tutor at Davidson Day School in the Learning Enrichment Center (LEC), I have helped dozens of students improve their grades. In addition to better grades, I help students build their confidence--this is the part of tutoring I like best--and become more self reliant.
I can tutor math from pre-algebra, and algebra I up to college math courses such as calculus and differential equations. Additionally, I can tutor the math sections of the ACT, SAT, GRE, and GED.
I really care about my students, and will see that they receive all of the help and resources they need to improve their grades. My approach to tutoring requires active involvement of the student in the learning process. I do not lecture. Students are expected to apply pencil to paper and attempt to solve examples on their own; however, I work beside them to help them through the problem solving process.
Generally, I am available seven days a week. I am flexible on meeting times places. If you are looking for help improving your math grade, or standardized math test score, or if you want keep up your math skills over the summer, then I hope to hear from you! Michael is flexible with scheduling and has made himself available to help my son be successful. He is just as committed to his success as we are.
Michael was terrific and was extra accommodating in working out a time for us to get together. His excellent teaching style and knowledge proved an asset for my son to grasp his current calculus studies. Highly recommended!
Mr. S. is currently working with my high school aged daughter who was looking for instruction in Math 3. Math concepts do not come to her easily, however with the help of Mr. S. she was able to bring up her grade on the test following their first session. She is eager to continue working with Mr. S for continued guidance and teaching. I would recommend this tutor for your math needs!
Michael can slow down to work at student's pace, not zip through difficult material. That was exactly what we needed.
Michael also made special efforts to keep a tutoring appointment in spite of recent snow forecast.
It was very nice to clear some of calculus difficult solutions , understand concepts. very friendly and easy to understand explainations. good for resolving many questions and excercises after getting fundamentals cleared.
Extremely patient and great at explaining equations...my test scores have improved and so has my confidence. Would highly recommend him for Math III, algebra.
Michael was accommodating, friendly, and patient. He explained the math concepts to my son in a manner that he could fully understand the information.
I'm very happy I was able to find a great tutor for my daughter. She really liked Michael's teaching style and great patience in going step by step through the work and explaining in a clear and thorough way how she can solve the problems. I highly recommend this tutor.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have more than 25 years experience teaching and tutoring mathematics. When tutoring algebra I or any other math subject, my approach is to work along with the student in an interactive way; he or she and I both have our own paper, pencil, and calculator. I will illustrate how to solve a problem with an example, then have the student attempt to do one or more similar problems on their own. I closely monitor the student's work, and if there is an error in their final answer, I will give them the opportunity to find the source of the error before I intervene. If a student is really struggling with a topic, and their homework assignment is not providing adequate practice, then I will provide additional examples and exercises.
Currently, I tutor algebra 2 at a Day School in Davidson, NC. I have been tutoring for seven years. I have a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in mathematics.
I have a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of NC, Chapel Hill. I have taught all levels of calculus through advanced calculus. I have tutored both high school and college students in calculus.
I have taught this subject in public and private schools, and have taught it in college. This past academic year I tutored a senior taking Discrete Math at Davidson Day School in Davidson, NC. I kept her busy working examples; if we ran out of assigned examples, then I would make some up. We got along very well; she worked hard; and was exempted from the final exam, because she maintained an A average for the entire year.
I have tutored geometry for many years, and have taught it in high school. I know the subject very well. My college degrees are in mathematics, and I continue to educate myself in mathematics. Geometry is my favorite area of math. When tutoring, I like to work along side of the student. I work examples, and have the student work examples with hints and guidance as needed. My goal is to help the student master the subject, and gain confidence in his or her ability to work independently.
I have tutored middle school students in math for almost ten years, and have had a great rapport with them and their parents. I have taken and passed both Praxis exams for middle school and high school math. I give my students plenty of examples to work to help them gain confidence, and I always praise them when they do something well, or have one of those "Aha!" moments when they experience a flash of insight into an idea that had been a source of struggle.
I have years of experience teaching and tutoring precalculus. I can help you realize your goals: improve grades, get ahead, prepare for tests, and gain confidence. I do this by working well chosen examples, that illustrate a computation or concept, then giving you the opportunity to try an example or two for yourself; we will go over your work, so that I can provide feedback. Occasionally, there is a "trick" to solving a problem; I have seen just about all of them, and I don't mind sharing. If I feel you need more practice with a computation, then I can provide it. If you are doing well, and want to get ahead, then I will be more than happy to accommodate you!
