In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a five year degree (120 credit hours) in elementary education. I attended Eastern Michigan University and graduated with honors. I completed an intensive course project on the Common Core. I use these standards in the classroom and with tutoring.
I graduated with honors in 2004. My education program required students to take a variety of courses such as piano, math, curriculum and assessment. My verification is for grades K-6. However, I currently tutor much older students.

I have graduated with honors in 2004 with a degree in elementary education. My major was language arts which included intensive work in learning the sound-spelling and letter pattern of words. I have taught phonics in the classroom to first grade students with high success.
I have taught study skills to many of my students. Once students learn how to study they are able to learn the material quicker and with greater depth. In addition, I teach test taking strategies. I am currently tutoring a student for the EOG's in his public school.
