HI! I am a licensed Sign Language Interpreter who loves to see people wanting to learn American Sign Language! I know during my process of learning I definitely needed and wanted someone to just practice with or correct anything I was doing incorrectly. It's important you practice sign language. It follows the saying "Use it or lose it". I have interpreted in several states and have a good understanding of several different regional signs.
I have lead several sign clubs as well as tutored lots of individuals who are learning. I have Deaf family members, so the language is very close to my heart. I am excited to see this communication gap get smaller and smaller.
My method of tutoring is to see where you are and go from there. I am willing to work with beginners to advanced. I will use my voice for beginners, however, for advanced it is imperative to do voice-off to insure the signing is accurate. Each client is different and I am flexible to adjust my method to fit your specific needs. I can't wait to meet you!

Brittany is amazing--knowledgeable, kind and a consummate professional. She translated a scene from a theatre script for us into sign language--a script that included difficult medical terms. Brittany was able not only to assess the script quickly and translate it in a way that was clear for us to learn the signs, but also she was able to tell us proactively how we needed to accomplish our goals. The sign of a true professional is someone who can anticipate a student's problems and provide him/her with tools and answers that the student may not have even known s/he needed. Brittany was great to work with.
We reviewed and reinforced what we learned last lesson. We learned several new signs adding to our list! It is really working for our family.
many heartfelt thanks.
Brittany was very responsive to our emails and calls. She did a great job with our son and we are looking forward to working with her in the future.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I work as a professional Sign Language Interpreter. I have my NC interpreting license. I have a 3.5 on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment test.
