About Raymond

I am a math teacher who has been teaching for fourteen years. I have taught math at the middle school from 2001 to 2009. I have taught math to sixth, seventh and eighth grade students. I have also taught at the high school level from 2009 to the present day and I have been teaching all high school courses such as algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics and calculus. In the afternoon I have taught at the community college level teaching GED courses: math, English, science and social studies. I have help students pass the EOG, EOC, GED, HSE, ACT, SAT, TEAS, AND ASVAB. My students always tell me that I make math easy because I take each topic and concept and simplify it rather than just give the students examples from a power point presentation or the textbook. Whenever I start a lesson I always start from the most basic concepts necessary for the lesson. Let’s take equations which can be one step, two step, multi-steps or literal equations. Eighth graders are expected to know one and two steps but I would still start at one step just to make sure each student have the required background rather than assume they have or should have the necessary background. I take the same approach to tutoring by giving each student a diagnostic test to see what are their strengths and weaknesses. I then take the students strong points and build on them so they could have success and take on the weaknesses in a timely base on the students’ progress.
I teach a broader range of topics and strategies to students I tutor so they will understand any concepts their teacher is teaching. Since I am not their teacher and I know students and parents expect their grade to increase as a result of getting a tutor I always study my students’ notes and their teachers’ expectation and tailor my teaching method to match that of their teacher. I use patience, repetition, frequent small successes, praise, and recognition. I also work very hard to gain my students trust by listening to their problems and trying to explain the solution in a way that they can understand. I also use each moment I work with my students to show them that I truly care about their grades and success in school. It is important for students to know how much a tutor knows in order for them to know that the tutor is knowledgeable enough to help them do better in their classes. Students also want to know how much a tutor care about them and their success in school and this I spend time to show that am not just doing this as a job but I am doing it because I enjoy teaching and I love to see students become successful especially those who have had some problems in a given subject area. Let me work with you and I will do my best to show positive outcomes within the first three weeks.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
