Elon University (Computer Science)
A retired IT/Data Analyst who has a gift of teaching. Currently a long term substitute teacher, I enjoy helping students learn in different and challenging ways allowing them to achieve better understanding of the subject and gain self-confidence in their abilities. I am patient and willing to work with students who have learning disabilities especially ADD/ADHD. There's no "one size fits all" in regards to lesson plans and will focus on what works best for the student.
I graduated from Elon University (Cum Laude) with a degree in Computer Science and minors in Mathematics and Information Systems. I have worked as an IT professional in Sales and Marketing with a strong background in Web Design and Development, System Administration, and Project Management. In addition, I have experience as a Clinical Data Analyst and as a Business Analyst. One of the tasks I enjoyed was training new members to the team.
Recently, I have taught gifted students Web Application Development through Duke Talent Identification Program (TIP). The challenge there was creating and delivering lesson plans to students ranging from beginners to experts. I enjoy challenges and am motivated by them. This past year I have substituted at all levels (Elementary, Middle School, and High School). My teaching has also extended over to sports as a youth coach for football, baseball, and basketball. I was an assistant coach at the Middle School level in basketball and football and served two years as the Head Coach of an AAU basketball team.
I truly look forward to hearing from you and moving the student to the next level!
I have a high interest and strong aptitude in math, a minor in Mathematics from college, and have applied many of these principles in my work background.
I currently teach Physical Science at a local high school and have always enjoyed the sciences.
I was particularly strong in grammar and have applied that through college and my career. I have a keen eye for all types of grammar mistakes and can make the correction.
I have played the sport nearly all my life and coached at many levels including recreation, school, and AAU. My focus is to teach the fundamentals which I stressed as a coach. I have developed several practice plans where I teach the technique and the player executes it.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been playing basketball for over 45 years in recreation leagues, junior varsity, and adult leagues. I have been a head coach in boys recreational leagues, middle school teams, AAU, and adult leagues. In addition, I served as an assistant coach on a boys middle school team. My focus is on fundamentals such as passing, ball handling, shooting form, rebounding, offensive and defensive positioning and team play.
