About Saundra

I love watching children grow in confidence as they learn new and not so new concepts. It's exciting to watch my students experience success and reach new goals in subject areas that have been challenging for them in the past. I am a mother of four and certified teacher with over 20 years of teaching experience.

I have taught and/or tutored every grade from kindergarten to 5th grade. I have taught every subject in each of those grades: math, language arts, social studies, science, spelling, grammar, etc… I spent the last few years of teaching as a reading specialist. I worked with students reading below grade level. My main goal was to make as much progress as quickly as possible. I have experience creating individual education plans that cater to each child's needs and learning styles. I did this with much success. I will do the same with each student I tutor.

Although I have a 24 hour cancellation timeline, I am more than willing to work with individuals to make up missed lessons.

I have a tutoring office in High Point, NC, which is in a very public area. This is where I prefer to teach, but I am also open to traveling short distances if needed.

I am very excited about the opportunity I have to assist individual students meet their personal educational goals. I look forward to hearing from you.

I have been teaching grammar and vocabulary within the context of guided reading groups as well as other subject areas my entire career. There are lots of fun and unconventional ways to help students retain vocabulary in a meaningful way. I've always been a vocabulary buff myself. I am one of those people who have several vocabulary game apps on my phone. I find it fun and entertaining.

I have my BA degree in Elementary Educ. from the UNC at Chapel Hill. I also earned a MA degree in Elementary Educ. from East Carolina University. I have been able to use my education to help K-5th grade students learn in unique and fun ways for more than twenty years. I love trying creative as well as research based interventions with struggling students.

I am very familiar and have used several different phonics approaches over the years. I am able to assess individual children's needs and use the approach that best meets the needs of their learning styles. I also like to incorporate some great websites that assist with learning. I will be more than happy to share this information with the students' families to get more practice in at home.

Please contact me to schedule lesson/s with you or your child. I love teaching children and finding the keys to unlocking their success in learning. I am also open to tutoring adults with reading and learning disabilities.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
