I am an experienced 7-12 grade coach and teacher in history and writing/literature. After growing up in the educational world -my parents are both educators and I actually grew up on a boarding school campus- I attended Middlebury College in Middlebury, VT. At Middlebury, I studied American Studies, American History, and Education, and even managed to play some baseball and soccer along the way.
After graduating from Middlebury in 2006 (which makes me 28 years old), I took a job at the Hopkins School, and elite, private day school in New Haven, CT. While there, I taught students ranging from ages 12-16, and coached baseball and basketball at all levels. I tutored over the summers and during the year, specializing on helping students with their term papers, prepping for the writing sections on standardized tests, and getting a leg up on more advanced courses.
Though my experience in primarily with larger groups in the classroom and playing fields, there is nothing quite like the opportunity to work with individual students on a more personal level. The real key, though, is for students to not hate what they are doing. If they do not like or want to be tutored, then there is no point. My primary goal is to get past that initial apprehension, boredom, or resistance, and convince each student that the work they are doing is worth their while. If I can do that, THEN I can tutor and student of any age in history or writing. Hi!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been a high school and/or American Legion baseball coach for six years, and previously played at the high school and college level. I have worked with many players at all levels on individual hitting and fielding skills, and after years of playing, research, picking the minds of other coaches, and attending coaching clinics have developed what I believe is a sound approach to teaching and improving the fundamentals of hitting and fielding.
I played high school basketball for five years and have coached middle and high school basketball for the last four years. I was raised by a basketball coach, and since I was in middle school, as a player and coach, I have honed and developed my approach to the game and the skills required to play it well. I have many passions, but maybe none as strong as my love for the game of basketball.
As an experienced teacher, one of the fundamentals that make up the foundation of my teaching strategy, curriculum development, and pedagogy is and always has been the development of sound study skills.
