Hi! My name is Melana L.

I taught 2nd grade at Invest Collegiate Imagine School for 3 years, Preschool for 1 year, and First Grade at Dana Elementary School for 1 year. I was born in Florida and moved to Hendersonville, NC for middle and high school. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education at Toccoa Falls College in Northeast Georgia and recently finished my Master’s Degree in Curriculum & Instruction with a Gifted/Talented focus at Regent University online. I have experience working in public schools, after school programs, summer programs and in settings with high needs students and gifted students. I love to encourage students who may not have confidence, as well as provide more specific tools than immediate family may be able to provide. I believe a good relationship is a key part of learning from a teacher well.

My hobbies include reading, seeing movies and live music, hiking and cooking. I love to be with friends and family and pet sit and babysit in addition to tutoring because I enjoy care taking and anything cute. I love coffee and Chick-fil-A!

I taught elementary math for 5 years and have tutored students in high school math. I have a teaching certificate both in GA and NC.

I taught elementary reading and writing for five years and have a reading specialist endorsement on my teaching license in the state of Georgia. I also took a significant amount of courses in teaching English as a second language and have worked with non native English speakers.

Please reach out to chat if you think I can help you meet your goals! I would love to meet you and work with you.

I worked in standards based schools which means working deeply with Common Core standards every year that I dived into with willingness as I enjoy content. I also received significant training in working with standards in both of my college programs. I feel comfortable not only writing curriculum but adapting existing curriculum.
