I have been a mathematics teacher, mostly in the New York City public school system at the high school level. I am also bilingual and taught HS mathematics in Honduras, Central America for 2 years. I recently moved down to the Hendersonville area and have been debating whether to get my North Carolina teaching certificate. I currently have a certificate from New York State but was thinking about college level teaching instead of high school. I have worked for a tutoring service in New York for the 4 years prior to moving here. I have tutored all levels of high school mathematics as well as SAT and ACT and other standardized tests. Although I have a Bachelor's degree majoring in mathematics and minoring in Spanish and a Master's degree in mathematics, I also have tutoring experience in Spanish, English, Science, and Elementary education. If you're interested in a tutor who is professional and full of integrity, consider me as your man.

Linear Algebra,

Linear Algebra

I have both a bachelor's and master's degree in mathematics and had to take linear algebra as part of my undergraduate studies. In fact, early in my career in teaching, I wrote up a curriculum for 12th year mathematics as an alternative to calculus which included a semester of geometric transformations followed by a semester of linear algebra.
Logic,

Logic

I have taught truth tables to the laws of logic to direct and indirect logic proofs and the universal and existential quantifiers as is part of the New York State curriculum. I have also taken a class in it at the undergraduate level and later on, it pops up in set theory, probability, geometry and any other subjects requiring proofs like modern algebra and linear algebra. It is also a major component of computer programming which I've also studied and taught.

Great lesson!

Ira was very helpful and understanding when tutoring me for my teacher exam. He is very knowledgeable with mathematics theories and he helped me to understand theories not taught in your regular mathematics classroom. I recommend him to anyone.

Fixing the Unfixable!

Our son was a dedicated hockey player with a history of injuries & skipping math. When pre-calculus came to a head Ira stepped in and did as much damage control as humanly possible. Ira is more like a personal math teacher than a tutor. He fully reflects his years of teaching experience in the way he handles our nearly hopeless math situation with our son.

Tutor responded:

And as a result of many hours of cramming with Michaels, son, he ended up making up all of his missing work and passing his third and fourth quarters, and graduating from high school, ready to enter the Citadel.

Very helpful and knowledgeable

Ira has helped both my children improve their grades. He goes above beyond to ensure my children understand the concepts.

Easy going and encouraging mathematics instructor

We went over trigonometry and calculus gaps and misunderstandings that I had to move forward in my calculus based Physics course.

Best tutor out there!

I really can't say enough about Ira! I am so glad we chose him over all of the rest! Math is a struggle for my son, has always been, and I'm no help because it was for me as well. Ira was able to help my son learn and understand the SAT math that his teachers, including an SAT prep class instructor, didn't take the time or effort to help him understand. My son takes the SAT in 4 days, and he is confident that he will score very high. Thanks to Ira, my son will get a great score, and this will make it possible for my son to go to college. This was so worth the money spent, and I HIGHLY recommend Ira!
