Brooklyn College (Master's)
I have been a mathematics teacher, mostly in the New York City public school system at the high school level. I am also bilingual and taught HS mathematics in Honduras, Central America for 2 years. I recently moved down to the Hendersonville area and have been debating whether to get my North Carolina teaching certificate. I currently have a certificate from New York State but was thinking about college level teaching instead of high school. I have worked for a tutoring service in New York for the 4 years prior to moving here. I have tutored all levels of high school mathematics as well as SAT and ACT and other standardized tests. Although I have a Bachelor's degree majoring in mathematics and minoring in Spanish and a Master's degree in mathematics, I also have tutoring experience in Spanish, English, Science, and Elementary education. If you're interested in a tutor who is professional and full of integrity, consider me as your man.

Ira has consistently been a very helpful tutor throughout the sessions I have had with him. He is very knowledgeable about the material, and always knows how to best explain a problem in terms that I will quickly be able to grasp. He is very good at breaking down the problem, and walking me through each step. When I struggle to understand something, he is very patient with me and helps me understand the areas in which I am struggling.
He's been very effective at assuring me that I am very capable with the material, and that I am also very capable of overall success in my class. For example, when I was working through a Calculus problem in review for an upcoming test, I was making a careless error. When he noted my error, instead of getting frustrated with me and trying to fix my error himself and write over my work, he simply offered support, and told me that I knew what I was doing, but I just needed to fully show my work on the problem in order to get the right answer. He is very encouraging when it comes to my accomplishments in this course, and has markedly enhanced my confidence with the material. I am very grateful for his tutoring services!
Our son was a dedicated hockey player with a history of injuries & skipping math. When pre-calculus came to a head Ira stepped in and did as much damage control as humanly possible.
Ira is more like a personal math teacher than a tutor.
He fully reflects his years of teaching experience in the way he handles our nearly hopeless math situation with our son.
Ira has helped both my children improve their grades. He goes above beyond to ensure my children understand the concepts.
We went over trigonometry and calculus gaps and misunderstandings that I had to move forward in my calculus based Physics course.
I really can't say enough about Ira! I am so glad we chose him over all of the rest! Math is a struggle for my son, has always been, and I'm no help because it was for me as well. Ira was able to help my son learn and understand the SAT math that his teachers, including an SAT prep class instructor, didn't take the time or effort to help him understand. My son takes the SAT in 4 days, and he is confident that he will score very high. Thanks to Ira, my son will get a great score, and this will make it possible for my son to go to college. This was so worth the money spent, and I HIGHLY recommend Ira!
Thanks for the great review. I really appreciate it and will use this as my reference on any applications for new students who are interested in preparing for the SAT.
Ira actually knew what he was talking about and explained the calculus concepts to me in a way I could understand. Will definitely be meeting with him again! Very flexible as well. Definitely contact him!
Ira is fun, friendly and knows his stuff. He is a really good teacher! I also appreciate his detailed comments after each session.
Very helpful and understanding. A fantastic teacher, he has adapted to my daughter's short attention span. She really enjoys her days she has tutoring.
I feel very comfortable knowing that Ira is working with my grandson. He is organized and dedicated to making sure that assignments are understood. Ira is able to motivate my student to complete assignments.
Ira was patient, knowledgeable, and very practical in his approach knowing we had only a short time to prepare for upcoming SAT. He assessed my daughter's weak points and focused on helping her in those areas. He also helped her understand how to best answer the questions on the practice guide and provided a book for her to borrow.
I also appreciated his prompt feedback/comments and willingness to work with us despite a longer commute.
Today was my son's first scheduled Calculus lesson with Ira. He was very helpful in determining where my son's weaknesses in calculus lie. They worked through several problems and he gave my son some advice to make things easier for him going forward. We are looking forward to next week's lesson. It seems as if Ira is going to be a great tutor match for my son's needs.
Ira is helping me improve my SAT math score and has helped me with test-taking strategies. Great for rebuilding math knowledge from past courses. I'm confident my score will be better thanks to his help.
Excellent tutor. Really knows his subject. Honed right in on my son's strengths and weaknesses. My son felt very pleased about his progress and is enthusiastically doing his homework following each lesson.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a bachelor's and master's degree in mathematics and have studied various discrete topics, including, set theory, logic, probability and combinatorics, topology, group theory, and number theory.
I have been tutoring Languages, both English and Spanish, for the past 7 years. Although I am a native English speaker, I have been studying Spanish in school since I was 11 and I lived in Honduras for 2 years. So I can help you with the technicalities of reading and writing plus I understand how uncomfortable and sometimes embarrassing it is living in a country and not fully understanding what people are saying and not being able to communicate your thoughts effectively.
Finite math usually covers the same topics as discrete math in most colleges....statistics, probability, set theory, linear algebra, and maybe some other small, business related topics. I've studied them all and have tutored them all.
I have already taught several students through WyzAnt for the ISEE exam....and they have both passed and been accepted into private school.
I have both a bachelor's and master's degree in mathematics and had to take linear algebra as part of my undergraduate studies. In fact, early in my career in teaching, I wrote up a curriculum for 12th year mathematics as an alternative to calculus which included a semester of geometric transformations followed by a semester of linear algebra.
I have taught truth tables to the laws of logic to direct and indirect logic proofs and the universal and existential quantifiers as is part of the New York State curriculum. I have also taken a class in it at the undergraduate level and later on, it pops up in set theory, probability, geometry and any other subjects requiring proofs like modern algebra and linear algebra. It is also a major component of computer programming which I've also studied and taught.
I have already helped 2 middle school teachers study for the mathematics part of the praxis test since they wanted to become high school teachers. I have a permanent professional mathematics teaching license from New York State and had to go through similar tests. I received my mathematics master's in 1990. I have tutored for your company, Calc I,II and III, linear algebra, differential equations, discrete math and other higher level mathematics.
I have a Bachelor's and a masters degree in mathematics which makes the material very easy. I have 22 years of teaching mathematics at the high school level where I often included SAT type questions in my everyday lessons. I have been tutoring privately and as part of an independent school that concentrated on standardized test preparation in both mathematics and English.
I have a minor degree in Spanish and have been taking classes from age 11 to age 22. This makes me very educated in grammar and vocabulary...reading and writing. I also lived in Honduras, Central America, which makes me very proficient in verbal communication. I have tutored several students in Spanish and have even taught one student from scratch.
