Anyone can occasionally create a good photo. All you need is a little luck and a little skill. But to take excellent photographs on a regular basis, you have to consciously control the creative and technical process.

I love photography, and I enjoy teaching. In my youth, I was an assistant to an architectural photographer. As a young adult, I spent two years as a full-time military photographer. I later managed a biological and scientific photography department at a university. After shifting gears and entering business and industry in a non-photographic capacity, I began teaching media and photography in evening undergraduate and graduate programs. Over the years, I have designed and taught courses at SCSU, NYU, NYIT, and The School of Visual Arts in Manhattan.

As a pro, I worked with camera and film formats from 35mm to 8x10. For years, I processed and printed all of my own black-and-white and color images. Assignments have included capturing images from aircraft, in surgical operating rooms, through microscopes, underwater, and at basketball, football, and auto racing events. I have documented animal behavior, and created publication images of plants, flowers, insects, art objects, people, places, products, parts, and numerous other subjects.

As a retiree, most of my photography now involves wandering around interesting places with a digital SLR on my shoulder. I especially enjoy nature photography, and have a personal affinity for the beach and its flora and fauna.

I would be happy to discuss how my skills and knowledge might be a match for your photographic learning needs.
