I am a Special Education teacher with experience teaching Kindergarten to High School aged students. I have been trained in how to find the current academic level of a student and to adapt my teacher to the student’s needs. I want to be involved in positive educational experiences of students. I love history have taught math for two years and I have even worked with students in a Montessori education setting. I feel that my job is to give students the tools they need so that they eventually no longer need me.
I graduated from East Carolina University in august of 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Education in Special Education with a concentration in Reading. I received my Initial License for Special Education General Curriculum K-12 with Reading Specialization from North Carolina in June 2011.
I have worked at North Pitt High School and Washington Montessori Public Charter School. In both schools I worked with kindergarten through eighth grade students who has a range of disabilities including learning, mental, emotional and physical disabilities who have qualified through Exceptional Children services for special education on their math curriculum. I work both as a resource teacher for additional instruction and as a Co-teacher in an online blended math program. I work with students who have a wide range of disabilities including learning, mental, emotional and physical disabilities, in a resource setting ensuring that lessons and teaching strategies are modified to meet the students' needs. We employ a blended virtual learning and classroom learning setting, along with Curriculum Assistance classes. Additionally I am responsible for annual meetings for students on my caseload, with an in-school team and the parents to develop the students Individual Education Program We also reevaluate the student’s need for services student’s every three years.
I have worked through my own leaning disability of Dyslexia and helped my son cope with his Asperger’s so I truly understand with students go through when they are struggling socially and academically. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I graduated with my Special Education Certification from ECU in 2011 Then I went on to be a part of the Special Education team at Washington Montessori public charter school. While there I spent two years giving supplemental math assistance.
I spent the last two years teaching Math Curriculum Assistants class at High School level, Intro to Mathematics and Occupational Course of Study Algebra. These classes are all tooled for students who have deficits in math and their math abilities ranged from elementary math to upper middle school math.
