Hi everyone! I am Daphne. For a lot of students, school can be a little confusing. In class, a lot it taught, but you are not always taught why it is important or why it works. My goal is to fix that. Another problem that lots of students have is remembering after the test. More than once, I can remember taking a test and forgetting about it until it is brought up again at the end of the year. If you want your child to find purpose in what is being taught in school and understanding beyond the basics, I am your woman! I am a twenty-two-year-old young woman with several elementary and special education courses under my belt. Is your child having more trouble focusing than the other students in the class? I am the person for the job. I make a point to teach each child as an individual and look at the specific needs for your child. I have taken several courses on utilizing different instruction methods for each child. A part of this has come from some training and experience with working with students with special needs. I have worked with students at all ends of the spectrum. I have experience with working with students who just struggle in one area and with students who struggle in multiple areas. I want to help your child succeed and make your student understand that learning can be interesting and fun at the same time.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am working towards my elementary education degree. Within this has been many courses dealing with teaching reading through phonics and other methods(that is my focus). My tutoring methods involve working at the student's pace. If a student knows his sounds but does not understand how to blend, that is what we will work on. If the student does not understand the various sounds involved with vowels, most of our work will involve that. I teach according to the student but am qualified due to my experience teaching students how to read while at ECU.
I am working on becoming an elementary education teacher at ECU. I would not feel prepared if I was unable to differentiate my instruction so all students could succeed. Part of this is making it so that students prepare for various tasks according to their understanding. If a student understands best what is seen, visual cues would be helpful. If a student learns through hearing, reading the information to himself might help. One of my goals would be to help students to know how to succeed when studying.
