I have been in education for 19 years, both in private and public schools as an administrator and classroom teacher, and tutor. Currently, I am in my 12th year teaching Math I, II, III and Discrete Math to special needs students in a local public High School in High Point. I currently hold a NC Teaching Certificate in Exceptional Children: General Curriculum (K-12) and have taught mathematics in the general classroom, in inclusion classes, and in the math resource classroom. Throughout my career, I have privately tutored both middle and High School students in Mathematics. I work closely with a group of 30 students on my caseload to assure that they are successful in High School and beyond, and therefore have a comprehensive knowledge of the current Guilford County mathematics curriculum and a knowledge of graduation and college acceptance requirements.
While I have spent some of my career teaching advanced students, I specialize in students that struggle with mathematics and I have years of experience breaking down abstract mathematical concepts and processes into concrete, easily understood steps which allow every student to be successful. There are many different ways to solve many math problems, and as a classroom teacher, I not only know the way that most teachers are presenting the content of their course under the common core standards, but also have a "tool bag" of tricks available to present to students if they have difficulty in comprehending a subject or specific concept.
Over the years the vast majority of my tutoring students have achieved their academic goals by raising their grades, being accepted into magnet schools, and by being accepted into the college of their choice. Along the way I have had an opportunity to wok with some wonderful families and students and have made life-long friends.
