Greensboro College (Theatre)
Growing up as the oldest of three siblings, I had to spend a lot of time helping them with their homework. That's where I discovered my love and gift for teaching. Although, my first love has always been Theatre. I spent four amazing years in the theatre department at Greensboro College as an acting major. I took English and History classes in my spare time, because I have always excelled in those subjects and I have a passion for learning and discovering new things about the world I love in.
I have been lucky to have been teaching drama classes for kids of all ages since I graduated high school. I nannied for a family of three for two years and tutored the two oldest everyday after school. I spent a year working at the Natural Science Center performing as Indiana Bones and as the narrator in Kats: The Meerkat Musical. So, it's safe to say that I love working with kids of all ages. There is nothing like watching a child that has struggled so hard, and thought they could not succeed in something discover that can do it. Watching high school seniors, you spent hours going over monologues and songs with, walk into their audition and blow it out of the water. It's so satisfying to know that you helped someone believe in themselves, in some small way.
I have been tutoring kids in English and reading since high school. When I was working as a nanny I taught one of the children to read, and tutored the other two in elementary English, Science, Math, and History everyday after school. I took extra English and writing classes in college and in high school, my favorite being the British literature class I took in college. I plan on going back to school to get an English degree in a few years, because I would like to teach British Literature at a high school.
I am currently working in a box office at a very successful regional theatre and we use Microsoft office and Excel everyday. I took computer classes from middle school to college and really know my way around the whole Microsoft Office collection. Microsoft PowerPoint being my favorite, a lot of people think PowerPoints are boring, but I know how to really utilize that system. I made a PowerPoint for a professor that he uses to teach a theatre history class. I also have experience editing and using movie making software. And, I've have made a website for a friend that she still uses today.
First and foremost, I have a degree in Theatre, as an acting major. But, I've been doing theatre since I was about six years old. I have Stanislavsky training, Meisner training, and Fitzmaurice voicework training to name a few. I also have experience on the technical side, as we had to help build sets and costumes for our productions as part of our training. I helped incoming freshman work on their audition packages for the college. I was the assistant Broadway dance instructor for an 8 week summer camp, where I also assistant directed their production of Suessical the Musical. I have been teaching drama camps at City Arts since I graduated high school. I have proficient knowledge of Musical Theatre as well.

For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
