##### About Tamecia

Hello,

I am currently a doctoral student in engineering education, but I'm interested in offering my skills as a tutor. I have been tutoring different math and science subjects since high school, from younger students to older adults who go back to school part-time. I am certified middle school math and science teacher. I have written curriculum and followed a boxed curriculum to teach, so I can be flexible depending on what a student needs. I taught middle school math (pre algebra and algebra) and science (general and physical) full-time for three years, and high school math (precalculus and calculus) and science (physics, chemistry, and biology) over the summer for four years in a college prep program. Many of my students from those years of teaching are in college, and a few have even graduated. They still keep in touch, and I am very proud of them! A few of the students are on their way to being teachers, veterinarians, lawyers, and architects.

I was originally trained as an engineer in undergrad, so I have seen how math and science work together in the world to explain things and make lives better. I tried to use those practical skills as a teacher and a tutor. I have been finding creative ways to get students who are visual to see concepts, students who are auditory to be able to make connections, and students who are more hands-on to use manipulatives to help them learn. I use lots of games and toys to make math and science fun without students realizing that they are learning. ;)

What I like most about tutoring is hearing later from my students that all of the hard work we did together paid off, and sometimes they knew things in advance of their classmates so they can teach others tricks. I like watching the change from low confidence to becoming a superstar in the subject. Over the summer, I completed my 4th year tutoring an elementary student, and he called me the first week of middle school to tell me he understood everything because we did it in advance. His dad was very excited for him to start off the year great. Even when the year doesn't start off great, we can make it better.

If you need a tutor who can apply math to situations in everyday life and make it relevant, look me up. If you need a tutor who can translate what the teacher wants and help you be successful in class, look me up. If you have never felt good at math or science, we can change that. I'll make it a personal mission.
