About Jennie

A Chicago native with a Master's Degree in Learning Disabilities, I taught grades 1 through 12 ADD/ADHD, Dyslexia, LD, BD, and Aspergers for 5 years in both public and private schools. I left teaching to start my own tutoring service, which stayed afloat for seven years until the real estate market crashed. In spring 2015, I moved my family to Greensboro, substitute taught at Noble Academy, and rebuilt my tutoring business!

I teach Orton Gillingham and other multi-sensory approaches to remediate auditory processing, phonics, spelling, grammar, essay writing, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and higher-level thinking skill deficits. My favorite methods include Orton-Gillingham, Barbara Wilson, Lindamood-Bell, Recipe for Reading, and Project Read. I also teach ACT/SAT English and Reading Comprehension review and ESL. Most importantly, I weave movement, visual imagery, laughter, and games into each session! *References available upon request!

Besides being a learning specialist, I am blessed to also be a published author! I have written two multi-sensory written expression books for teachers and three adult mysteries. I also worked as a freelance journalist for newspapers and magazines. Did I mention I taught Journalism to gifted students at National Louis University's Worlds of Wonder Program.

I am excited to help your children and young adults develop their written and oral communication skills, along with an ability to understand the written word. I promise if they work hard with me, they will fly. Well, not really "fly," but you knew that! Contact me to schedule your first lesson!! I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. Energetic, passionate tutor that works great with teens

I would strongly recommend Jennie as a tutor. Jennie currently uses Multisensory techniques to remediate my daughter's Dyslexia so that Jena will continue to make measurable strides in phonics, spelling, and vocabulary. I like that Jennie holds Jena accountable for her errors but in a helpful and loving way. Jena has developed a great respect for Jennie and she truly enjoys working with Jennie
