A Chicago native with a Master's Degree in Learning Disabilities, I taught grades 1 through 12 ADD/ADHD, Dyslexia, LD, BD, and Aspergers for 5 years in both public and private schools. I left teaching to start my own tutoring service, which stayed afloat for seven years until the real estate market crashed. In spring 2015, I moved my family to Greensboro, substitute taught at Noble Academy, and rebuilt my tutoring business!

I teach Orton Gillingham and other multi-sensory approaches to remediate auditory processing, phonics, spelling, grammar, essay writing, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and higher-level thinking skill deficits. My favorite methods include Orton-Gillingham, Barbara Wilson, Lindamood-Bell, Recipe for Reading, and Project Read. I also teach ACT/SAT English and Reading Comprehension review and ESL. Most importantly, I weave movement, visual imagery, laughter, and games into each session! *References available upon request!

Besides being a learning specialist, I am blessed to also be a published author! I have written two multi-sensory written expression books for teachers and three adult mysteries. I also worked as a freelance journalist for newspapers and magazines. Did I mention I taught Journalism to gifted students at National Louis University's Worlds of Wonder Program.

I am excited to help your children and young adults develop their written and oral communication skills, along with an ability to understand the written word. I promise if they work hard with me, they will fly. Well, not really "fly," but you knew that! Contact me to schedule your first lesson!! I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Caring Tutor

My daughter who is almost 13 (7th grade) wrote this about Jennie: "I like that you try to get me entertained and to do things that I feel like I can’t do with adults. I like that you inspire me to take a chance. You bring joy with your dogs. You give out rewards for getting things right and for trying your best to get things right. You give big rewards to me if I get a lot right. You give love to me even if I feel down. You have those cool letter blocks and I love them!” And from a grateful Mom … “Thanks so much Jennie for your concern and caring. We’re looking forward to doing great things together!"

Energetic, passionate tutor that works great with teens

I would strongly recommend Jennie as a tutor. Jennie currently uses Multisensory techniques to remediate my daughter's Dyslexia so that Jena will continue to make measurable strides in phonics, spelling, and vocabulary. I like that Jennie holds Jena accountable for her errors but in a helpful and loving way. Jena has developed a great respect for Jennie and she truly enjoys working with Jennie as her tutor. Each session is fun, yet focused and effective. Jena is a tough customer when it comes to tutoring because she doesn't easily see the benefits. However she still comes to each session focused and engaged. That is due to Jennie's energy and positive reinforcement. Both Jennie and I see the improvements that Jena has made. I am so glad that we found Jennie.

Great teacher and super patient

My son is 8 and has been at a Spanish immersion school. He has gotten behind on his English reading. Jennie is doing a great job teaching him reading and writing. She is a very patient teacher, even if your kid gets easily bored, she teaches them while keeping them entertained and excited about learning. Looking forward to continued tutoring with Jennie.
