One of my passions is to lead a learner to excel at his own pace. I put all I can to ensure a set goal is achieved by making my teaching student-centered. My teaching in a second language environment covered a period of over twenty years. I taught beginners at the elementary level, middle school and high school levels, and post-secondary students in after school programs. I was a popular choice of parents and students for extra English lessons in preparation for high school diploma and college admission. My special areas include English Language, Reading and Writing and Language Arts. I work as a substitute teacher for the Guilford County School District, and this has been for 14 years. I hold a bachelor's degree in English Language and Education, and a Master's degree in Language Education.
I teach from known to unknown by establishing what a student knows, and moving from there. Feedback from my students is very important to me as it enables me to provide remedial lessons so as to achieve the desired objectives. Homework means a lot to me to encourage independent work and ensure consolidation, and let students monitor their progress. I believe strongly in continuous assessment and a two-way feedback. I would expect my students to give me one day cancellation notice if they wish to cancel a scheduled class, and I would do the same unless in an emergency. This notice should be by e-mail. My students should be free to contact me for clarification by e-mail too.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
