We will be working hard during our sessions but it doesn't need to be boring. You can have FUN while you LEARN! It is my belief that the best learning happens when it is motivating and exciting.
I am passionate about bringing out the best in every person. I want my tutoring to improve a student's knowledge, but also his or her sense of self-confidence in being able to succeed in school. I will help students use problem solving and critical thinking skills that will enable them to be more successful in all subject areas.
I have my Master's Degree in Elementary Education with a specialization in Reading Education. I have over 20 years of classroom experience teaching all subjects. I have 16 years of teaching experience using computers and other technology tools in project based learning environments.
I have had a great deal of success in private tutoring. My tutoring approach is to determine the areas in which a student has difficulties and then plan a wide variety of learning activities to meet those needs. Both my formal training and years of experience enable me to be extremely successful in doing this. I spend a great deal of planning time before each lesson to be sure it meets the needs of the student. We will be working hard during our sessions but it doesn't need to be boring. Rebecca was patient, kind, intelligent, interesting and very enthusiastic with our 5th grader! She quickly put our child at ease and began an interesting quick assessment. Rebecca was very well prepared and had thoroughly researched current trends in teaching the subjects we need support with. Truly outstanding and the very best thing is our child can't wait for the next session!
Rebecca has been so amazing with her work with our child. She has already made such a difference with our child's reading ability and more importantly, our child looks forward to his tutoring sessions with "Ms. Rebecca". I highly recommend using Rebecca for your tutoring needs.
Rebecca has been tutoring my son,5, and my daughter, 8, in reading and writing. They both have made big improvements in school. She makes the lessons fun and challenges them to do better. I highly recommend Rebecca to anyone looking for a tutor. She is awesome.
Rebecca has done a great job helping our 7-yr-old son with his handwriting struggles. In her first session, she was quickly able to assess where he needed help without making him feel inadequate. Since then, she has come to each session (2x/wk) with creative exercises tailored to his interests and has kept him engaged and on-task -- not an easy feat! Her positive energy and appreciation for our son's personality have really helped build his confidence when it comes to writing. The results have been great so far!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Masters Degree in Education with a specialization in Reading Education. I also have 21 years of classroom experience teaching all language arts, including reading and spelling. So I am trained in all methods of teaching phonics.
Phonics, the relationship of letters and sounds, is critical to learning to read and spell correctly. Students can not memorize all the words needed to read. Knowing the way letters sound, let's them "decode" new words they encounter. By knowing phonics, students can hear the sounds in words and know which letters to use to spell the words correctly.
I teach math using concrete materials and examples that help students understand the concepts more easily. I have experience as both a classroom teacher and a tutor in this area.
Science is a fascinating subject to me. I can pass on that excitement to my students. I use many hands on experiences to make the studies come to life. I also help students relate why studying different types of science relate to the world.
I have a great deal of experience in teaching all areas of language arts. Grammar helps students understand the material they read. I help them see how the different forms of words create different meanings. Grammar lessons also help students write and speak more clearly. A good understanding of grammar is essential to success in all areas of education.
I have taught lower elementary grades for 21 years. Because these are the grades in which handwriting is taught, I have a great deal of experience teaching this subject. For tutoring, I would concentrate on teaching the children the correct way to form letters.
I have a Master's Degree in Education with a specialization in reading education. I have taught many beginning readers so that involved intensive phonics instruction for reading, writing, and spelling. I have also privately tutored older children in higher level phonic skills.
I have a master's degree in reading education. So I have developed many techniques to help students develop skills in all areas of reading. It is essential to develop vocabulary recognition, comprehension, phonics, and fluency. Students have different learning styles so I know how to adapt lessons to fit the ways they can learn most easily.
I have a great deal of experience teaching all areas of language arts. Learning phonics, the knowledge of letter sounds, is the most critical skill in spelling. Students must also be able to see patterns of spelling. I also have practice techniques for words that must be memorized because they do not follow phonetic rules.
I have a great deal of experience teaching all areas of language arts. I can help students develop better vocabulary skills by using context clues from a reading passage. Identifying antonyms, opposite words, is another helpful skill. I also teach students to recognize that the use of synonyms, words with similar meanings, can help them understand the meaning of words. Dictionary skills are also part of the work I use in vocabulary development.
