My name is Kathy and I have over 25 years of teaching experience in the middle school, high school and community college systems. In those 25 years I taught English at all grade levels and I taught mini courses of drama, reading, basic writing and grammar. At the community college level I worked with students who were deficient in their reading scores. After the class, students were able to pass an exit test which enabled them to successfully proceed with their regular college courses. All classes involved lecture, but I also developed materials to work with individual students at their particular levels. These materials came from everyday sources like phone books, catalogs, and business forms. One-on-one help gave students that extra push to master reading and English skills.
I have also done private tutoring for ACT and SAT English and reading. If students followed my instruction, they have improved their scores significantly. In these sessions students and I worked together to decide what they needed, and together we developed the strategy for successfully mastering the problem area.
I believe in getting right to work in a session to give students as much instruction as possible. Together we determine what a student needs and then we work on relevant materials to quickly improve grades or scores. I am patient, have a sense of humor, and have been told that I put students at ease. My goal is for all students to improve skills so they can be more successful.

Kathy is a wonderful, caring and extremely qualified tutor. But she is also more than that. She really looks at the whole individual and is compassionate, resourceful, and extremely dedicated to her students. She wants them to succeed, but she also wants them to learn the necessary skills needed for them to be successful in the future.
My son attended college away from home and when I first talked to Kathy, I knew she would be the right person to help him with his academics in this transition year. Josh struggles most in reading comprehension and writing assignments. He always felt very comfortable with Kathy and enjoyed working with her. She helped organize him so he could get a handle on his assignments and prioritize what needed to be done. She broke tasks down for him so it became manageable chunks. She was flexible beyond belief, because my son is not a planner and would sometimes call her at the last minute. She never refused him, she always tried to get him back on track if he got distracted with events on campus. I came to trust her and rely on her judgement and evaluation of situations. I knew she really understood my son and took the time to get to know him.
I have never met Kathy but I believe she must be a saint. I know I don't have the patience that she does! She was wonderful about communicating with me, by phone or email, if she felt I should be informed about anything, or if she wanted to know something particular to Josh's learning style. Unfortunately I did not take the time to rate each of the over 40 hours she worked with Josh, or she would have a lot more stars and reports. That's my fault. But she could easily qualify as one of those tutors with over +40 hours and 5.0 rating from her time with Josh alone!
I can't recommend her enough. I don't think there is a more decent human being out there, and I know as a tutor, she can't be beat!!! Thank you Kathy for helping him get through his freshman year.
Ms. Kathy is a very patient and experienced English tutor. She helped my son how to organize and edit his writing. She prepared for each lesson individually suitable to him. He feels relaxed and confident when he is with Kathy. I am glad I found Kathy through wyzant!
Kathy has been helping me review English and Writing for my upcoming ACT exam. She is helping me become a more confident test taker.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
