My math career started early. While in the 3rd grade I could work problems faster than the teacher. In undergraduate college I was selected as a departmental tutor for other math students, and also worked in a group home for troubled youths. I know and understand young people.
At graduation I was employed by Bell Labs, as a Rocket Scientist assigned to the Guidance Equation Computer Development Group for Missiles. For years I worked with the best computer and math professionals in the world.
I was one of two Bell Labs employees to receive an appointment to NCSU to participate in a special Mathematics Master's Degree Program with USAF Academy graduates. Years later I chose early retirement and have been teaching math at various colleges in central NC, as an Adjunct Instructor. I know and understand young people. They like me.
At NCAT I was chosen by the Student Body as "The Math Teacher to Take" for incoming students.
I also have a Doctorate of Ministry, D.Min., in Pastoral Counseling. My volunteer activities include being on the Board and serving as interim Director of North Carolina Teen Challenge, a drug and alcohol Rehabilitation program for young adults. This program was chosen by the Department of HEW as the most successful in the US.
I was also the Founder and Director of Triad Christian Counseling Center, an NC certified Psychological counseling center. I am eminently qualified to understand individuals needing help in math, be it for behavioral reasons or mathematical reasons. I love helping other people. It's my calling. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
