My math career started early. While in the 3rd grade I could work problems faster than the teacher. In undergraduate college I was selected as a departmental tutor for other math students, and also worked in a group home for troubled youths. I know and understand young people.

At graduation I was employed by Bell Labs, as a Rocket

Test Preparation:

Approved subjects are in **bold**.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I can help you with the followig ALgebra 1 topics:

Represent real numbers as points on the number line and distinguish rational numbers from irrational numbers.

Simplify, add, subtract, multiply, and divide expressions and fractions with square roots.

Evaluate and simplify numerical expressions containing rational numbers and square roots using the order of operations.

Calculate the measures of the sides of a right triangle using the Pythagorean Theorem.

Identify the slope of a line when given points, a graph, or an equation.

Identify horizontal and vertical lines given the equations or slopes.

Determine the effect of changes in slope or y-intercept in y = mx + b.

Determine and explain the meaning of slopes and intercepts using real-world examples.

Write the equation of a line when given two points or the slope and a point on the line.

Identify the x- and y-intercepts from an equation or graph of a line or a table of values.

Graph linear relations and inequalities by plotting points, by finding x- and y-intercepts, or by using the slope and any point on the line.

Solve single-variable linear equations and inequalities algebraically and graphically.

Solve real-world problems involving constant rates of change.

Solve equations for a specified variable.

Solve proportions that include algebraic first-degree expressions.

And anything else in which you or your child may need help in, including ALL introductory or foundational math principles.
