I taught for 32 years in El Paso, TX. When I was younger, I taught G.E.D to help students to get a high school equivalent diploma. I was proficient in all five G.E.D. subjects. Also, I worked for seven years as a mathematics tutor. Furthermore, I taught middle school and high school mathematics classes. Algebra One is my favorite subject.

Also, I worked for seven years as a mathematics tutor. Furthermore, I taught middle school and high school mathematics classes. Algebra One is my favorite subject.

I also taught reading classes for dyslexic students. Later, I worked in Special Education as a mathematics teacher and as a coordinator for a 504 program that helped students with physical disabilities. I went into a classroom and helped the student with math if needed while the class was in session, and sometimes it was an Algebra 1 class. While working for a charter school, I came in on some Saturdays to help students with mathematical problems in preparation for State testing.

I consider myself to be a patient teacher. If one method doesn't work, I will try another. I am also able to use a TI-84 Graphing Calculator or graph paper or both to demonstrate. I am able to represent equations in various ways, such as through graphing them.

Finally, I believe that what makes me a good teacher is that I want my students to learn. What I love about tutoring is communicating with them to find out what their learning needs are and how to help them. I am also very pleased when I see learning taking place as they work problems correctly. Their learning and happiness makes me happy.

I taught Algebra 1 to G.E. D. students and to high school students. I also tutored Pre-Algebra and basic mathematics. I have two mathematical certifications with the state of Texas, which are good for elementary all the way through high school.

If you need some Pre-Algebra or Algebra 1 tutoring, I hope to hear from you. Email me through WyzAnt's internal email. All payments are made through them. We can schedule lessons.

Elementary Education

Elementary Math,

Elementary Math

I am qualified to teach Elementary Mathematics for the following reasons: 1. In the beginning of my 32 years as a mathematics teacher, I did my student teaching in Elementary and Middle School Mathematics. 2. Furthermore, I taught Elementary Mathematics in a learning lab, tutoring environment, for seven years and in a private school for four years. 3. I spent four years doing Special Education math tutoring during the week and on Saturdays. 4. I taught some students at El Paso Community College G.E.D. and remedial mathematics to those who needed it.
Handwriting,

Handwriting

I know how to print letters, so I would help any student who needed correction on some letter to do it. As a teacher, I want my students to write clearly, so that I understand what they are trying to express. Also, by having my students write accurately, there is no question on the spelling of a word.
Study Skills,

Study Skills

I was a Special Education teacher for 5 years, and I showed students how to organize notes. I taught reading for several years and mathematics; students need to be able to search for key ideas. Even in mathematics, understanding study skills is important to understanding vocabulary and setting up word problems.
Vocabulary

Vocabulary

I have worked with elementary and high school reading students, and vocabulary was a key component. I taught reading and vocabulary for four years in a Charter school. I also tutored mathematics vocabulary to elementary, middle school, and high school students for 32 years students.

Excellent!

You cannot pay someone to LOVE math, and according to my son, Susan does! That kind of genuine appreciation for math-- is my best of hope of a contagion effect! I am very grateful for Susan's intellect, patience, focus and warmth. She is a model tutor.

Very soft spoken and caring.

This was our first session. Susan was easy to communicate and work with. My daughter is shy and Susan's demeanor was welcoming and made her feel at ease. Susan offered positive feedback as well as guidelines to help us better prepare for and succeed in our area of concern.

Dorothy, 1 lesson with Susan

Kind, and patient

My son has only had one lesson presently, but I asked him if Susan had taught him tips to achieve a better grade in Algebra and he immediately responded with approval. Susan is kind, and patient. I definitely will continue with her tutoring.
