Concord University (Elementary Education)
Hello parents and students,
My name is Simone N. I am a senior at Concord University, majoring in Elementary Education, scheduled to graduate in May of 2015. Although I am using tutoring as a supplemental income to compensate for my inability to work full time this year, my passion is teaching and I accept any tutoring opportunity with the same level of responsibility and professionalism as any other teaching position.
I am currently teaching in a third grade classroom all day Mondays and Tuesdays at a local elementary school under the supervision of a cooperating teacher. I also tutor after school for the same institution on Monday's and Wednesday's, all subjects from grades k-6.
I am dedicated to showing students the fun in learning, focusing on application of knowledge rather than rote memorization. I aim for effectiveness in my procedures and teach from a student centered perspective. Every child learns differently, so my goal is to build a relationship with my students where they feel comfortable enough to share the special ways in which they learn the best. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a recent graduate of Concord University. I hold a Bachelor's of Science degree in Elementary Education, grades K-6. I enjoy working with children of all ages, and I also ran a daycare in my home from the fall of 2011 until the summer of 2014, which included after-school tutoring for school aged children.
I have been teaching elementary math for two years in a public school setting as a classroom teacher. I am familiar with Common Core math as well as Singapore math. My students this year have steadily made gains. First quarter results show that my students made enormous progress going from 34%- 82% passing in a skills assessment that tested their understanding of base 10 concepts and number sense. They continue to grow this quarter in their understanding of fractions. I'd love to assist other elementary aged students that may need one on one instruction.
I am a graduate of Concord University, and I have a Bachelor's of Science degree in Elementary Education. During my coursework, I was required to take and pass a rigorous handwriting course. The course was graded meticulously, and both printed and cursive styles of handwriting were scored.
I am a graduate of Concord University, where I earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Elementary Education. During my coursework, I took several courses specifically targeting the teaching of reading, which occurs typically in grades K-2. Phonics was a major focus in dealing with emergent readers. A great deal of emphasis was placed on reading strategies, whole language, and assessing reading difficulty.
During my coursework at Concord University, where I earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Elementary Education, I took a course on educational strategies, which focused greatly on the teaching of study skills, based on a student's preferred method of learning. In this course, I learned about many different techniques designed to maximize student learning when one is studying previously taught material. I actually began using some of the strategies myself during the remainder of my coursework, and was able to pass each class thereafter with an "A" while implementing the strategies that worked best for me. I, in turn passed many of those strategies along to the students that I taught and tutored, which proved extremely useful to them.
