As a dynamic manager, business analyst, teacher and IT professional with more than 35 years of progressive experience overseeing complex projects and teams, I have had many opportunities to develop and teach mainframe and client based classes at the beginner through advanced levels.
I believe that knowing something is an opportunity to teach someone else. The most exciting thing for me as a teacher is when the "light bulb" turns on and those you are teaching have the world open to them with their new understanding and they have the opportunity to become the master.
While the majority of my teaching experience has been at a professional level, I am also an experienced in teaching introduction and concepts to those as young as five, usage experiences through the teenage years and support into college curriculum needs.
The classes and training that I have had the opportunity to provide at a professional level have included Excel, Excel VBA, Word, PowerPoint, HTML, REXX, Pipes, EXEC 2, Xedit, VM/CMS Concepts, FOCUS (PC & Mainframe) and Lotus 1-2-3. I have also taught classes in programming concepts, COBOL, PL/1, and Java Script.
I have had the pleasure and opportunity to actively teach all six of my own home schooled children in math, science and technology. I have also had the opportunity to teach NASA engineers and managers at the Kennedy Space Center. I am looking forward to the opportunity to teach you and help you to achieve your goals. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
When working at the Hartford Insurance Group my job was to review all Cobol development in the Life company and teach the developers how and why to do their coding better. I also developed an in-house code generation utility that would conform to all standards and requirements. I have, though my experience been able to optimize and normalize Cobol code including opportunities to trim run times to fit into production windows. On example was taking a process that exceeded a two hour window by running for more than 3.5 hours and optimizing it to run in under 15 minutes.
Having worked in the computer industry for more than 35 years, I have programmed in mainframes, minis and Windows based client/server environments. I have programmed in HTML; Java Script; Cold Fusion, Visual Basic Script, REXX; Pipes; EXEC/2; COBOL; Assembler; PL/I; DB2; SQL; QMF; FOCUS (PC & Mainframe); 360/370 JCL; JES2/3; CLIST. I have also programmed in VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) in the Microsoft Office Suite and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets).
