About Laurel Lee

I am a certified English and Social Studies teacher who recently moved from Florida to Fletcher (recently renewed to 2020). I am not certified to teach in North Carolina as yet; their system is backed up several months. Assuredly, however, I am a dedicated, thorough instructor with eight years of teaching experience. I've tutored quite a bit, particularly 250 volunteer hours at St. Augustine High School, focusing on reading comprehension and grammar. I've edited massive high school and college level papers and am a big believer in the rough draft. I enjoy the progress made with one-on-one interaction.

Mostly, however, I battle with the learner to find what makes the topic relevant. Most students are highly capable in other topics besides the topic they need help with. Their capacity to learn is not at issue. What frustrates them is that they don't have a foot hold on enough of the topic to really care about it enough to learn. I can help with that. I'm a dynamic, happy, clever person who likes teaching and learning, and I'm highly skilled at bringing even the most reluctant learner to try to take care of business.

I find out where the gaps of learning happened, and work to bolster the stability of overall learning. I'm a grammar nerd, and have found excellent resources that help to explain why the English language works as it does. It is a difficult subject for anyone. I'm an active reader, and focused in the recent years on young adult fiction, so I can help you find reading materials that are catered to your preferences. I can help you organize your thoughts as you learn to write papers, too! Even my college students have had to learn from the bottom. Don't think you're alone in this!

I'd love to meet high school students who are getting past their pressing exams and adult returning students who are working toward passing their GED. I'm in Fletcher, and can easily meet you in the area, at the library, or where you feel you might best learn.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
