I absolutely love working with students on an individual basis, because I find that problem areas and struggles can be much more easily identified and then addressed than when I am teaching a full classroom of students. In the past, I have taught 5th & 8th grade Language Arts classes, as well as 6th-8th grade resource classes. My strength is reading instruction and working with students with learning and emotional disabilities. I have adapted an older phonics reading program combined with some newer word division techniques which has allowed me to help my students significantly raise their reading levels. I enjoy using "hands on" learning techniques and prefer using white boards and markers for instruction. I have a passion for English/Language Arts and enjoy teaching writing, grammar, and all kinds of literature. I have had much success with the instruction of fractions, as well. I find many of my students' issues in math result from their failures to have originally learned such basics as multiplication facts and adding/subtracting negative numbers.

As a child, I went to a nationally recognized private college prep. high school, so I know what it is like to be "pushed" academically. In turn, I taught 8th grade Honor classes. Please don't think that because the majority of my experience and passion is in working with students with disabilities, I cannot work with regular ed. and/or honor students, because I most certainly can and enjoy doing so. I also have had a few pieces of writing published and enjoy teaching all aspects of English-especially writing.

I have a B.A. in elementary education and a M.A. in special education from Furman University. I am currently licensed to teach elementary and middle school grades K-8 and special education grades K-12 in both SC & NC. I am also High Qualified to teach elementary school and certified to teach students with emotional/behavioral disabilities. In addition, I am also the mother of an 8, 10, and 11 year old daughter, and some of my daughters have ADD and other disabilities, as well.
