Methodist University (Accounting)
I have a Bachelors degree in Accounting with minors in Business Administration and Entrepreneurship from Methodist University. However, after having two children I found that my passion lies in teaching young children. It is my goal to help them learn that they are capable of achieving anything they set their mind to. I have patience and a positive philosophy on teaching. I find that children learn best when they are having fun and when they are encouraged along the way so that is the way I present material to them.
Math is fun! I have always excelled in math and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Accounting. I enjoy teaching the various methods of learning and understanding how math works. I also love to read- I love the rhyme and rhythm of children's books and enjoy reading with enthusiasm. I can also help with phonics as well as help learn letters and sight words. A major roadblock in learning is feeling overwhelmed and a feeling of impossibility but I take the time to slow down and teach the basics with baby steps to build confidence and excellence. Jamie tutored my son on 2/18 and helped explain five math assignments that had to be turned in on Friday. My son really liked her . She was patient when he didn't understand and really explained and encouraged him to do it on his own. Great tutor !!
Jumped right in with our son and he immediately did better. Maybe it was the confidence boost but she helped alrdy.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am currently studying to obtain my Elementary and Early Childhood Teaching license from Praxis exams. After I taught my son his letters, numbers, sight words and basic phonics before he entered kindergarten, I discovered that teaching was something that I enjoyed. I have continued to teach my son 1st grade curriculum ahead of schedule. The methods of teaching that I used for both my son and daughter were flash cards, workbooks, early reading beginner books, and songs. I have assisted in the kindergarten classroom and have found that the children are always receptive to the instructions that I provide. I also enjoying reading to young children and they always respond well to the way that I read. I have tutored children from ages 3 through age 14, including children with learning disabilities.
