University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Biology, English)
Hello! I am a recent graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where I majored in Biology and English Literature. My focus at this point is preparing to apply to medical school. While these subjects are my strongest areas, I am also able to help students who need improvement in French language, math (algebra, geometry, SAT math, precalculus, and calculus), chemistry, or physics. Additionally, I am knowledgeable in various types of critical analysis (art, film, and music) so I can absolutely tutor students who may be taking AP or upper level courses which require that sort of skill. I have never formally tutored students before, but I am very eager to help anyone who may be struggling in a class or simply needs a little bit of guidance.
Ideally, I would love to not only help students improve their grades, but also help them genuinely appreciate the material. I'd much rather influence tutees to develop positive study habits and to adopt a way of thinking that doesn't rely solely on memorization. This way, the lessons they learn in school will stick with them way beyond any single test. I am excited to see what I can do to help improve students' educational experiences!
The sciences have been the main focus of my education from very early on. Having taken so many courses in subjects ranging from astronomy to biochemistry and being involved with various science extracurriculars, I understand what it takes to do well in scientific settings. The courses I've taken which are most relevant to middle and high school students are: chemistry, organic chemistry, general biology, anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, genetics, and physics.
While I do not have any experience as a tutor, I am a very fast learner and am extremely easy to work with. I know that everyone is unique in her or his way of learning and pace. No matter what kind of study methods work best for the student, I am always very patient and understanding of every individual's unique needs. Hello! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My coursework includes many courses either centered on or featuring several units focusing on genetics. These include: genetics, molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, blood diseases, vertebrate embryology. Having been exposed to genetics in a number of different forms, I can comfortably tutor any student who needs improvement in basic or advanced level genetics courses.
