East Stroudsburg University of PA (Special Education)
Hello, my name is Joe and I would like to tell you a little bit about myself. I am originally from Pennsylvania, which is where I received my bachelor's degree in Special Education. While taking classes also I volunteered as an assistant coach for the Special Olympics. I helped coach the power-lifting team. This was a very uplifting experience, as I got to see and be a part of the growth in the athletes. I graduated in December of 2005. My first teaching job was at an alternative school. There, I taught troubled students of the middle school and high school age. The subjects I taught was Reading, History, and English. I also acted as a counselor at this school as well. The students had a variety of learning disabilities including ADHD, ADD, dyslexia, and Emotional disabilities. I decided to leave that school and work for a social services agency. Here, I worked with children with a variety of disabilities and their families. After working there full time for about a year, I got another job at another alternative school. I kept the job working for the social service agency, but cut the hours down to part-time. It was about this time when the agency gave me an award called, "Certificate of Excellence." This was a very proud moment of my career. I stopped working for these two jobs when I decided to move down to North Carolina with part of my family.
As of right now, I am working at a sixth grade middle school in Fayetteville. I am a coop-teacher. This means I work with students with certain learning disabilities that are in regular education classes. I help teach and modify instruction for my students in math and English. I spend some of my planning periods and most of homeroom tutoring students who seek extra help in math, which is mainly pre-algebra. I am also currently tutoring a young man in algebra once a week. He is trying to get into the navy and must pass certain criteria, and I was hired to help him pass.
As you can see, I have over ten years experience in working with a variety of children in a variety of subject matter. I hope you liked what you read and consider selecting me to tutor you and to assist you in meeting your goals. Hello, my name is Joe and I would like to tell you a little bit about myself. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
