About Alan

I have more than 24 years clerical experience, including over five years in accounting and tax, 4.5 years in banking and 13.8 years as a Telecommunications Dispatcher. I had a federal government classified security clearance when I worked at the DEA and U.S. Coast Guard in accounting.

My math tutor experience is based on working part-time at a Learning Center tutoring elementary, middle and high school students for 19 months. I have learned that it is essential that students master the basics in math, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, without the use of a calculator. It is helpful if the student brings his or her textbook to the tutoring session so we can review what type of problems are being assigned by the school teacher.

I have completed 26 hours in accredited accounting courses and 40 hours in accredited business courses.

It would be helpful to meet with the parent before the first tutoring session to discuss their expectations and goals for their child's education.

Parents and/or students should not expect the tutor to do homework for the student.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
