Hi, I'm Liv! I've been reading since I could hold a book and writing since I could hold a pencil. Creative writing, particularly poetry and creative nonfiction, is my first love, which paid off in high school in the form of awards and scholarships for college, but I also excelled in academic writing, graduating summa cum laude from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2018 with a B.A. in Women's and Gender Studies and a Certificate in Documentary Studies from Duke...

Hi, I'm Liv! I've been reading since I could hold a book and writing since I could hold a pencil. Creative writing, particularly poetry and creative nonfiction, is my first love, which paid off in high school in the form of awards and scholarships for college, but I also excelled in academic writing, graduating summa cum laude from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2018 with a B.A. in Women's and Gender Studies and a Certificate in Documentary Studies from Duke University.

Once at UNC, I realized just how many thoughtful students struggled to communicate their ideas clearly in writing. What happens if you craft excellent public health policy, make a breathtaking scientific discovery, or solve a previously unsolvable math problem, but you can't communicate your findings? No matter the major or career path, I believe excellent writing is the foundation for success in college and beyond, and I'm passionate about supporting students' growth from brilliant thinkers to outstanding writers.

Beyond passion, I have extensive experience in teaching and tutoring a variety of subjects. Before I taught formally, I spent much of my free time in high school and college tutoring English, chemistry, and even the cello. I have worked for 8 years as a program director and facilitator for a Cincinnati-based nonprofit where I develop curriculum and teach courses for students ages 8-22 aimed at improving writing skills and honing the individual voice. I spent a year as a teaching artist at the Staten Island Justice Center, where I developed and facilitated individual and group workshops for justice-involved youth on narrative storytelling and the mechanics of audio production, culminating in a year-long, student-led audio documentary project. I also offer individual writing tutoring.

I'm excited to work with aspiring (or even reluctant) writers from middle school through college, and I can provide quick responses and flexible scheduling. Please contact me for more information and/or to schedule your first tut

As a program director for the nonprofit writing school Women Writing for (a) Change, I bring 8 years of experience designing and teaching reading- and writing-based curriculum for students ages 8-22. I also regularly tutor high school students in literature with the Gilliam Writers Group. As a summa cumme laude graduate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with extensive coursework in literature and creative writing, I am well prepared to guide students towards the rigorous analysis demanded by high school and college literature courses.

Personable and helpful

Liv is very organized, well prepared, and has a great passion for helping her student. My quite advanced middle schooler had an excellent time working with Liv. Her personality is very upbeat and positive, and I appreciate her choice of words when talking to my child and I was mindful, respectful, and supportive.
