About Haleigh

Hi! I'm Haleigh! I am a new college graduate that has recently started my career in a great research field. I have a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, and I learned very quickly that success is the result of hard work and dedication. While I was in college, I tutored multiple high school students in chemistry, and I also worked as a supplemental instructor (SI) for general chemistry classes. My role as an SI was to organize and host weekly general chemistry review sessions that were planned according to the specific needs of the students, which included homework help, quiz preparation, test preparation, and remediation.

I love tutoring because I recognize that every individual has a unique learning style. Although I excelled in the classroom throughout college and high school, I did not discover my true learning style until I was halfway through college! I believe that it is so important to determine how a student studies best, and I hope that I have a few tricks in my book that will help!

Due to my background in chemistry, I have excellent math skills. Algebra and Elementary Math were both topics I had to continually help students with during general chemistry, and I feel extremely equipped to tutor these topics.

I am an outstanding science tutor because I LOVE SCIENCE. In addition to my degree in chemistry, I have spent a lot of time in the classroom studying chemistry, biology, etc., and I love it when other people develop a passion for chemistry. My qualifications for tutoring science include my experience working as a Supplemental Instructor and tutor, and I have also taken the Dental Admissions Test, which allowed me to develop a strict study routine.

I love learning, and I look forward to helping students achieve their goals! I am typically available in the evenings (M, W, Th, F) and on Saturdays. My rate is $45 an hour, and I am willing to meet students in a public location!

I look forward to helping you achieve your goals!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have a lot of experience tutoring students in Algebra 1. While in college, the students I tutored in general chemistry primarily struggled with Algebra 1, and unfortunately, that impeded their success while working chemistry problems. Because of this past experience, I have been able to develop ways to address Algebra 1 issues and how to enable students to be able to solve a range of algebra problems.

Biology

I have a very extensive background in biology due to my research and academic experiences. I completed a minor in biology during college, and I am also currently working in the research field.

Chemistry

I hold a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Chemistry. While I was in college, I was a Supplemental Instructor for General Chemistry. During this job, I organized and held weekly review sessions for students that were tailored to their specific needs, whether it was homework help, topic remediation, test preparation, etc. I also tutored local high school students. One of my greatest success stories was I started tutoring a student who was failing high school chemistry, and within six weeks, I was able to help her pull her grade up to be able to pass the class and to graduate.

Elementary Math

I am qualified to tutor elementary math because of my extensive chemistry background. I have a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, and I used a lot of math during my degree. In the past, I have tutored students that struggled with the math portions of chemistry problems, so I feel confident in my ability to help students achieve their math goals. I love math, and I believe that it is such an important skill to perfect.

Organic Chemistry

I am qualified to tutor organic chemistry because I hold a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry. I graduated in May with a 3.61 GPA, and I can provide a transcript that shows my grades for Organic Chemistry. Through my Supplemental Instructor experience, I have learned many ways to teach organic chemistry. Furthermore, in organic chemistry, repetition is important, so I would encourage daily practice of topics. I also have a handful of online and physical materials that would be used to aid students.
