About Jennifer

Hi, I'm currently a graduate student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill pursuing a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. My research focus is on the neural and behavioral mechanisms underlying substance use disorders, namely with an interest in executive control functions (e.g., working memory, inhibitory control, attention). I have always been involved in tutoring and thoroughly enjoy it, as I find it incredibly rewarding to guide students to achieve their academic goals, as well as to cultivate a sense of confidence, self-efficacy, and creativity. In addition to providing academic support, I find that tutoring is a really unique opportunity to work with students to develop more general skills such as those that enhance organizing, problem-solving, and using the available resources. The combination of academic success, skills, and confidence is something that a student can apply to many elements of their future work and life, whatever they ultimately end up pursuing.

I graduated from Swarthmore College in 2012 with a major in Psychology and a minor in Statistics. During my time as an undergraduate here, I served as a Teaching Assistant (TA) for the Statistics and Astronomy Departments. This role involved grading assignments and also providing academic support to help students with their homework assignments and exam preparation. After I graduated, I worked at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) as I was granted a post-baccalaureate fellowship. During this time, I tutored at C2 Education, where I worked with all students ranging from elementary school to college to help them with schoolwork (homework, exam preparation), standardized test preparation (ACT, SAT, SAT-II), and also college applications. Currently, I tutor through an organization at UNC that helps student-athletes with their schoolwork.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you would like to more about myself or to schedule tutoring session(s). I am looking forward to this opportunity!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
