About Deborah

I am a licensed RN pursuing my Masters to become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. I have over 3 years of tutoring experience. And enjoy helping people meet their academic goals.

I've tutored everything from nursing classes to history but now I focus solely on NCLEX preparation. I decided to be dedicated to this one topic to stay in touch with all the subtle nuances of this examination, that way I am best be the best NCLEX coach and tutor I can be.

Since I am still a student myself, I still know what it is like to drudge through textbooks and flashcards. I want to help other students understand how to prioritize information and topics so they can make the most of each study session. It is not about working hard, it is about working smart. Anyone can pass the NCLEX the first time, in 75 questions as long as they understand the psychology behind test questions and have a good understanding of core nursing content. No mindless memorization is necessary.

The NCLEX is not like a nursing exam. All year long you have been studying in order to get a certain grade, meaning you most likely tried to learn and memorize as much as you could. That was good then, but now you have to break that habit. Passing the NCLEX is all about doing the least possible work for the highest results. I can help you.

International and ESL Students:

Together we will identify your weaknesses and develop a customized plan of study that will cover core content and strengthen your approach to practice questions. Many of my students struggle with the subtle nature of NCLEX style questions. On top of the critical thinking element, the tone and syntax of a question can sway the outcome. I have helped many students overcome strategy challenges.

Over thinking or underestimating questions:

When I met with my tutor, the first thing she helped me with was my thought process. It only took a few sessions but it made all the difference. Now I pay it forward by teaching others what I learned . The way you analyze a question can make or break you.

Organizing and prioritizing core nursing content:

Whether you're using Saunders, Kaplan, or Hursts, I can help you sift through the fluff and focus on priority information. A simple trick is to ask yourself how many questions can be written on this topic in how many possible formats. And can this topic cover multiple test categories i.e. Pharmacology and management of care?

Memory Techniques:

The method of Loci, the wardrobe method and other advanced memory techniques. Passing isn't going to be based off how much information u can memorize but what information you memorize and how you use it. I teach evidenced based memorization strategies to help you remember what you learned last week so you can connect it to what u learn this week.

Students RE-Taking NCLEX:

It happens to many students, you study hard, take the test but don't quite hit the passing standard. It Is Okay. Sometimes it is test anxiety, study technique, or even a weak review guide that makes the difference. If you have already taken this exam I can help you analyze what happened, what needs improvement, and develop a plan and find the right review system for your learning style. Together, let's make you next NCLEX your last.

Returning after many years away from nursing:

If you graduated nursing school before 2014 and you have yet to pass NCLEX, YOU CAN PASS EVEN AFTER 10 YEARS AWAY FROM NURSING!!

Great Prices:

Tutoring for a university is easier on a student's wallet, I keep my prices at a reasonable rate because I can afford too. Even though the average prices are much higher I believe everyone should have access to quality academic assistance. Especially since NCLEX is the exam you need to become a nurse, I understand that most students are not working full time. You've already spent $$$ on the test registration. And if you are like me, you've spent a little more on a few extra NCLEX books. You shouldn't have to spend your last penny on tutoring. My NCLEX tutor felt the same way, and I am grateful she did.

I am a licensed nurse with a passion for helping others whip the NCLEX as I did.

Whether you want several sessions or just one consultation, I can help you pass the NCLEX.

I teach in all learning styles and have a unique approach to NCLEX content. I can counsel you on which review books to consider and assess your readiness to test. I also offer memory palace training at no additional cost. Employing memory champion techniques that are used to count cards, or even recite Pi will expand your memory potential.

Types of Tutoring Sessions:

Building a Plan of Study: We will look over everything that needs to be studied versus the time available and build a plan of study.

1 hour Check in/Homework Overview: Each check in will consist of an assessment of current progress and a re-evaluation of overall goals, as well as a review of homework assigned in prior session.

Questions Dissection: These sessions dive into the psychology behind various questions, and their rationales.

Study Drills1-4 hours: Combines Question Dissection with an in depth review of core content by topic/body system, along with impromptu quiz-like questions and drills.

Wyzant's pricing policy works like a taxi meter, it starts from the beginning of the time booked (when the session opens) till I close the session page when it ends, and divides the hourly charge into the total minutes of the session.

Test Preparation:

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
