I have had the pleasure of learning Spanish from native speakers while in my early teens and continuing that education on into my undergraduate studies at UNC-Chapel Hill. I have tutored high school, college, and adult learners and really enjoy helping others open new pathways in their lives by learning a new language.Tutoring gives me the opportunity to help students achieve their goals, whether it be for travel, work, or personal enrichment.
I specialize in conversational Spanish, technical science Spanish, conversational Portuguese, and technical science Portuguese. My graduate work at NC State allowed me to utilize my language skills in a science-focused setting. I focus heavily on everyday Spanish and enjoy having lessons in community situations (i.e. restaurants, grocery stores, etc.) that helps students get familiar with the inner workings of the language.
I have traveled extensively in Spain, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic and learned Spanish from native speakers from across the Spanish-speaking world. I was awarded the Camoes Prize, given to the outstanding undergraduate in Portuguese.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I've been speaking, translating, and teaching Spanish for 16+ years.
