Students like me for my simplicity. I present complex topics in the simplest way possible, and assign very little busy work. My classes are fun and laid back, but also very successful.

We won't just sit there and do problem after problem. It will be a conversation. By the end of a lesson, my students can do more than follow steps to get a correct answer. They can explain it!

I taught AP Calculus AB for 5 years and tutored in Algebra 1 & 2 for more than 10 years.

I taught AP Calculus AB for 5 years and tutored in Algebra 1 & 2 for more than 10 years.

I taught AP Physics B/1/2 for 8 years, Honors Physics for 8 years, and studied Physics Education at UNC Chapel Hill. Class of 2009. My mathematics praxis score (test you take to become a teacher) was in the top 15% of all test takers. Got a 5 on the AP Physics B exam, and a 5 on the AP Calculus AB exam back in high school.

My availability is usually very flexible now that I've retired from teaching full sized classes. Any time, any day of the week I can usually make it work!

*Currently doing lessons within 12 miles of downtown Durham.

Lessons include free printouts of practice problems. I have loads and loads of good worksheets from all my years as a teacher. (However, sessions are typically more effective if we can review resources/assignments from the class itself!)

Best of luck with your studies!!

Common Core

The current math sequence in high school (Math 1-3) is very similar to the previous NC sequence of Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2. I am comfortable in all 3 of these subjects. Another big change with common core was an emphasis on students learning math by intuition and discovery rather than simply being handed the idea and drilling tons of practice problems without knowing WHY the formula/procedure works the way it does. Thankfully, I've always taught by encouraging intuition and discovery so this style actually works better for my students than the old way of learning!

Outstanding Tutor

Great explanations and use of examples. Super knowledgeable. Patient, flexible in teaching methods, very flexible with his schedule as well. Chase communicated with my son's teacher to find out the best way possible to help him with his work. (Even when everything seemed a mess with his math tutorials from online schooling) I truly am grateful that he was willing to go above and beyond for my son. He's a keeper!
