About Nicholas

I'm Nick, a PhD student at Duke studying signals processing and electrical engineering. I finished my Masters degree over the summer of 2014, and prior to that, graduated with a 3.97 GPA from University of Pittsburgh's electrical engineering program. My everyday work involves extensive advanced mathematics and statistics, and I get excited about learning new concepts.

Math has been a passion of mine since my grandfather started teaching me basics as a 3 year old. In middle school and high school, I competed in and won many mathematics competitions in middle and high school. I started tutoring in high school and taught my local MathCounts branch, which resulted in one of my students winning the Johnstown regional competition and progressing to the Pennsylvania's state competition.

I look forward to working with you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Business

Management consulting focus. I am the former President and current Vice President of the Duke Advanced Professional Degree Consulting Club, an incoming Consultant (MBA level) at Boston Consulting Group in Atlanta, and an attendee at McKinsey Insight 2016. I have extensive experience practicing business cases with consultants from BCG, McKinsey, Trinity Partners, etc. and would like to offer my services for helping students prepare for case and fit interviews at major consulting firms.

MATLAB

I code in MATLAB on an almost daily basis for my PhD research at Duke and have worked with a number of students with various problems and skill levels. I have logged ~3000 hrs over the last four years in MATLAB and am experienced in functional and object oriented coding.
