University of North Carolina Greensboro (Biology)
Hello Potential Student,
My name is Brandon. I have been tutoring students for well over 10 years. I have tutored students in mathematics, various sciences, and also grammar, etc. I started many moons ago when I was a high school student and continued through college and present day. I attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. During this time, I participated in a genetic research project concerning the effects of environmental conditions in relation to plant morphology and biomass; this was a very interesting process in which I gained skills in polymerase chain reaction (PCR), DNA extraction, field plot allocation, gel electrophoresis, etc. I am currently continuing to volunteer my time and efforts, well after my time at the university as a student. I also took courses in literature, mathematics, physics and a host of biology classes, all of which were writing and speaking intensive. I have continued to study these courses, along with a range of others, for fun and with the anticipation of attending graduate school. I am currently working in the chemistry field and continuing our research at UNCG where the knowledge of biology/chemistry and the use of various mathematical disciplines and scientific instruments are essential to ones success.
My approach to tutoring is to explain the information to the student in the most simplistic form that suites there level of comprehension and learning style. From this approach knowledge can be built upon and related concepts may aid the student in there development. Sometimes this can mean going over every minor and major detail to explain the relationship between: a concept, a series, structure, etc. or this can simply mean showing: a picture, chart/graph or a model. I am a highly punctual person and usually prefer quiet places that are suitable for one on one time without any interruptions (library study rooms are great for this!); however, I am open to just about anywhere. I also regard myself as very patient and very willing to work with you as diligently as needed regardless of your difficulty in a particular area or any challenges you may have to overcome. In case of an emergency or cancellation for any reason I would appreciate a 24 hour notice and will oblige by the same. I just enjoy the educating process both learning and teaching, and feel a since of gratitude as a result of my aid and the students effort.
My kindest regards,

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
