I currently teach sociology part-time at two different colleges. Tutoring would be an additional way to help students gain understanding in the sometimes difficult fields of psychology and sociology.
Previously I taught full-time for 24 years, both psychology and sociology, at the community college level in both North Carolina and South Carolina. I have able to teach at this level due to my Masters in psychology and 30 plus graduate hours in sociology.
Prior to teaching full time, I taught psychology part-time while obtaining my teacher certification in social studies. I briefly taught American History at the secondary school level in SC but choose to pursue post-secondary education as a career.
As an added benefit to those seeking tutoring, I received my bachelors degree in both psychology and history. Therefore, I have tutored both high school level students and college level students in psychology, sociology and history at various times in the past.
Although my educational credentials are more oriented towards the social sciences, I considerable experience in helping students with writing projects and would be a helpful tutor for students working on papers in many subjects.
I would be particularly useful as a tutor for someone in college level psychology and sociology classes or someone in high school AP courses in psychology, sociology or history or someone writing papers for higher level courses. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am certified to teach political science as part of my certification in secondary social studies (South Carolina).
