The George Washington University (Biomedical Engineer)
My name is Esther and I am a current PhD student at UNC, Chapel Hill and a Biomedical Engineering, B.S. graduate from The George Washington University. It was at GWU that I first began tutoring local high school students in various subjects (mostly mathematics). This experience was so rewarding that I am looking to pick it up again. Among the subjects that I can tutor are Algebra (I and II), Geometry (including Trigonometry), Precalculus, Calculus, Biology, Chemistry and Spanish. I have a very flexible schedule as I am a part-time research fellow at the FDA.
I have had experience tutoring students individually and in small groups (about 3-5 students); in group tutoring sessions, I have covered different subject-matter with each student, but our time is best spent when everyone is working on the same material. It has been my experience that identifying where the students first stopped understanding the material is the best place to start. Often, by the time students seek additional help, the rest of the class has moved on to more complex material and starting with the more advanced material won't do much good unless the student feels comfortable with the foundations of the subject. It is for this reason that I like to not only help students come to the right answers, but also consistently make sure they know why an answer is correct. When a student can give me a clear answer as to why or how they reached their answer, that makes it clearer to me whether or not they truly grasp the concepts they are studying.
Seeing students making progress in their studies is a wonderful thing and well worth the effort put into the extra practice.
Thank you and I hope to hear from you soon! Hello!

Esther is a very patient tutor who truly demonstrates her passion for teaching by her ability to explain difficult concepts in a fun way.
My daughter is always looking forward to her sessions with Esther, her grades have improved from low B to an A+.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
