Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I have worked with several students who have ADHD. I am very familiar with techniques used to assist with executive function, organization and planning in addition to activities to assist with attention.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I have attended training workshops at TEACCH and worked with several students and families on the autism spectrum. I am very familiar with techniques used to assist with executive function, organization and planning in addition to activities to assist with sensory processing disorders.

Discrete Math

I have a BS in physics and an MS in medical physics. I am certified via Wyzant in prealgebra, algebra 1, algebra 2 and geometry. On March 14, 2009 I received an ETS Recognition of Excellence for the Mathematics: Content Knowledge Praxis for a score within the top 15% of all test-takers who took the assessment in previous years.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a degree in K-12 media, thus qualifying me to work with students of all ages.
I spent a year teaching and tutoring elementary-aged students in reading and math at Montessori Community School. I taught students aged 18 months - 12 years at the Greensboro Montessori School from 2003-2005.
