I have over eight years' experience in providing effective individualized tutoring in Math and Chemistry and in offering Test Preparation for exams, such as the PSAT, SAT, ACT, and GRE. I firmly believe that anyone can achieve academic success, regardless of where he or she might be at present. As a caring and effective tutor, I will help you or your child build the confidence necessary to tackle any of these subject areas, no matter how daunting it might seem to be at first.
Over the years, I have tutored math (from pre-algebra to calculus), chemistry (to first year college), and other subjects with amazing success. Further, I have developed techniques that produce, in reasonable time, significant improvement in score on both the math and verbal sections of standardized tests, such as the PSAT, SAT and GRE. I also speak several languages and have tutored French, Spanish and Portuguese in recent years.
With an advanced degree in psychology and a background both in academia and in marketing, I have come to appreciate the fact that individuals learn at different pace and exhibit different levels of motivation; this understanding has helped me tailor my presentations accordingly. Moreover, I recognise that it is the responsibility of the tutor to ensure that the student develop the metacognitive awareness and acquire the basic skills necessary for success. While working as an academic advisor, I devised a number of academic success workshops on Effective Study Skills, Time Management and Test Anxiety--topics that are supremely important if a student is to achieve true academic success. I seek to incorporate ideas presented in those seminars in my tutoring sessions always.
Be assured that I am a most patient and caring tutor and am totally committed to the success of my students. And yes, I am very effective at what I do.

Jon is phenomenal. He knows his stuff. He is organized and comes to each session with a plan. He's not there to do your homework for you. Jon will make sure you understand the material. After the first session, my son had a grasp of several concepts which had been elusive. After the second session, he was feeling confident about his knowledge. By the third session, he actually described the work as "fun." He will continue working with Jon to prepare for the AP exam and to fill in gaps in his knowledge of the material. The only thing negative I can say is that I sure wish we had found Jon at the beginning of the year and not toward the end!
Came prepared with examples and didnt just tell how to get the answers but why they were the answers.
He is patient and let's you work at your own speed. He knows the ins and outs of the GRE and can coach you properly on how to approach the test.
Jon did an excellent job helping my son get ready for his finals in advanced algebra II and in chemistry. He has a strong rapport with his students and is able to identify where they need to concentrate their efforts. I would highly recommend Jon.
I prepared the GRE with Joan A in only 5 weeks I improved a lot my score. He is very patient and has a lot of materials. Believe me, he is a great teacher!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
