Note to Parents...

Parents,
Is your child struggling with classes? Is the struggle with learning lowering your child's self confidence? Does your child lack motivation to learn? Frustrated with watching your children's grades steadily falling? Teacher conferences not helping? The situation causing arguments with your child?

I have seen variations of this scenario played out time and time again. Mom or Dad, call me! Learning is simple if the student is properly prepared. The steps to prepare a student are relatively simple. The first step to learning is attitude and motivation. I change your child's attitude about themselves and about learning, then I motivate the student to learn! Next, I show them how easy learning really is. Further, I prove to them they can learn the material. Finally, I set a beginning and I do mean beginning goal of straight 'A's in school. I expect this from my students, and after a few meetings they will expect it from themselves! From the straight 'A's we start talking about more important stuff like preparing for College and Starting a business. It Works! I do not care how well or poorly the child is currently doing. This is not relevant! IT IS ALL ABOUT ATTITUDE!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

The ACT reading section covers four different passages in a span of 35 minutes. To achieve success on the test, simple yet precise practice procedures are warranted. The simple steps I teach range from creating and using a vocabulary notebook, to reading specific books, which use similar language and writing style as the passages found in the ACT exam. The steps I teach have helped many students prepare and achieve notable results on the exam!

ACT Math

As a professional ACT/SAT tutor, I have studied for and taken the ACT numerous times over the last several years. From this experience, I have found that the ACT Math requires specific test preparation. My tutoring program, using my extensive research and experience, is specially designed to help students prepare for and do well in the ACT.

Algebra 1

Tutoring Algebra of all levels is my specialty. I have extensive training in most algebraic concepts due to my tenure as a College Algebra teaching assistant for a local college. Under the tutelage of a knowledgeable mathematician, I gained understanding of how to implement various algebraic formulas. More importantly, I learned and now teach why to use the different formulas and concepts.

Business

I am qualified to tutor business for several reasons. First, I have a Master's in Business Administration. Next, I am an adjunct professor at a local university teaching both finance and business classes. Finally, I am a successful small business owner with years of "real world" experience.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have privately tutored several elementary students in math and reading over the last ten years. My approach to elementary students is simple. I identify the student’s problems while continually building their confidence. Once I understand the student’s area of difficulty, I create an innovative custom program to improve the subject foundation for the student. Below are just a few success stories!

My tutoring successes with elementary students cover a broad range. Recently, I helped a third grade student with reading comprehension. She was consistently failing her reading test. To improve her reading, I created an innovative, yet engaging program for her to improve her reading understanding through a series of short stories with several questions to answer following the article. After two weeks, her grades started improving. After six weeks, she was consistently receiving A’s and B’s.

Further, I helped a first grader improve his reading speed from under 22 words a minute to over 50 words within thirty days. This program was unique because both the parents and the student received the custom designed reading programs. I designed a site word program for the student to practice daily for fifteen minutes. Next, I trained the parents how to properly administer the program when I was not available for the tutoring session. The result, student improved his reading skill and passed 1st grade!

Finally, I helped a third grade student turn an ‘F’ in Math to an ‘A’. The student was struggling with her multiplication and division. To help her, we set up a program where she spent an addition 15 minutes a day and two tutoring sessions a week implementing my program to improve her overall math skills. After sixty days, her math skills improved to the point where she brought up her grade to an ‘A’!

Finance

Currently, I am a finance professor with a local university. This experience allows me to keep my finance knowledge up to date in our emerging "global economy". Further, teaching finance to college students enables me to continually refine my knowledge and delivery of financial concepts and formulas.

Reading

Reading is my specialty. I have created a reading program, which is proven to increase understanding, improve reading comprehension, and increase a student’s reading level by several grades in a short time period (usually about three months). The structured approach teaches students to easily grasp reading material and apply the skills to all their classes.

The program’s results have been excellent. Students have directly credited the program to perfect scoring on the FCAT and less time on homework. Parents brag about the program’s impact on their child’s self-esteem and elevated grade performance. College students claim the program improves their understanding of reading assignments.

Study Skills

Good study skills make school easier, however great study skills makes school enjoyable. As a PhD student and an experienced tutor, I have tried many different ways to study. Through my experience, I have identified simple steps to implement in study skills, which leads to extraordinary results!

The study skills steps I teach have not only worked for me. My students use the skills to reduce time studying for test, reduce time doing homework, and retain more information from reading and class lectures.

So far very good!

My son has enjoyed working with Mr. Paul, who tutored him on SAT Math. He was patient, my son told me that he has learned much more on how to take the SAT Math with the help of his tutor. I hope that his score will show this coming Saturday. Overall I am pleased seeing my son understanding and applying what he had been learning. Thank you Mr. Paul for your service and WyzAnt tutoring.
