About Aaron

Hi. If you are looking for a tutor to help you understand the material in one of your classes or if you want improve your scores for a standardized test or even if there is a subject that you want help learning for your own satisfaction, I can help. I've always been "that guy" who helps fellow classmates study for tests. Having tutored professionally since early 2010 both through the school system and independently, I feel as though I can comfortably say that I enjoy tutoring and not just because I enjoy teaching, but also because with every new student, and every new question each new student brings, my understanding of the subjects I tutor deepens. It truly is as they say, "the best way to learn is to teach." So, as cheesy as it sounds, I tutor because I love to teach and I love to learn. It is the perfect job for someone like me.

When I tutor, I go by the quote, "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." The goal is for the student to understand and to be able to solve problems in the subject without my help. The issue is that most of the time lower level math teachers don't get the students to understand the material, which leads to confusion in upper level courses. I've found that with a little review people tend to improve their scores and more importantly, their understanding.

I am currently studying for a Master's degree in Mathematics at FIU and I have a BS in Mathematics with minors in Physics and English also from FIU. I plan on studying applications of differential geometry into the financial field.

If you feel we might be a good fit, please feel free to email me. Thank you for reading my page and I look forward to hearing from you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Algebra is far too often taught as a set of mysterious formulas. I call this the "black box" effect, because one cannot see inside a black box so one does not know how it works. Similarly, if a student does not understand how an algebraic tool works, he or she is forced to memorize how to use it. If the student learns how it works, no memorization is needed.

Not only is understanding the algebraic rules easier than memorizing them, it also makes mistakes much less likely, and to do otherwise is, quite frankly, missing the point of subjects like Algebra.

Algebra 2

Algebra I and Algebra II are extremely similar with respect to the concepts involved. The problem most students have with Algebra II is that they memorized many of the tool and relations learned in Algebra I. This is a problem that persists through to Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and above! As a matter of fact, I still see this in many of the college students I tutor.

ASVAB

I got a 97% on the ASVAB, and spent 5 years in the US Army.

Calculus

Calculus was a big part of my Math undergrad degree. I've taken and received A's in calculus 1, 2, 3, Differential Equations, Advanced Differential Equations, and Advanced Calculus 1 and 2 and other related analysis courses. Whatever your issues are with Calculus, I can find them and correct them.

Differential Equations

Differential Equations is a fun course. It's like a course on how to solve certain puzzles. You're given a specific form of a differential equation and using the techniques and tricks taught in this course, one is able to find out what the original function is. It's really kind of beautiful. As for the quantitative part of my qualifications, I've taken Differential Equations at MDC and Advanced Differential Equations at FIU and received an A in both.

Discrete Math

During the course of my studies at FIU, I've had a lot of exposure to Discrete Math. I have also been tutoring this subject since 2013 both for the school directly and privately. Whatever your issues with Discrete Math may be, we can find them and correct them together.

Elementary Math

This is where one's mathematical understanding starts. It is in these first math classes that learning the concepts correctly is so important. If done correctly, math can become not only an easier endeavor, but also a fun one. If introduced properly, math can be a game of puzzles rather than the hair-pulling experience so many dread.

Finite Math

During the course of my studies at FIU, I've had a lot of exposure to Finite Math. I have also been tutoring this subject since 2013 both for the school directly and privately. Whatever your issues with Finite Math may be, we can find them and correct them together.

Geometry

A math professor once told me that the most important thing that he had learned during his time as a student was the importance of geometry and how all of math exists for geometry, and visa versa. Whether you're studying Analytic Geometry, Algebraic Geometry, Differential Geometry or even high-school Geometry, I can help you understand the concepts!

Guitar

I've been playing guitar for a little over 13 years now, and have studied jazz theory for a few years, and about a year of classical guitar. I continue to study music theory on my own.

Linear Algebra

I took Linear Algebra at FIU and received an A. More important than the grade, however, was the wide-spread use that I've seen since then. Linear Algebra really is the basis for Differential Equations, Calculus 3, and so much more in mathematics. Even Google uses Linear Algebra as the meat and potatoes of their search algorithm!

Logic

I've taken the Mathematical Logic course at FIU with Dr. Kafkoulis and received an A. I have also taken Axiomatic Set Theory which focused on the construction of L and WF. This Set Theory course was pretty much an extension of Mathematical Logic which is the study of Logic from an analytic viewpoint. Aside from that, I used logic throughout my undergrad degree to prove theorems and things in my Math classes. Long story short: I have a lot of experience with logic.

LSAT

The LSAT is just a game of parsing and understanding logical statements and a bit of playing with logic games. As a mathematician, I do these sorts of things for fun. If you're nervous about taking the LSAT, or even if you just want to raise your score by a few points, let me know.

Physics

I've taken university Physics 1 and 2 with calculus (PHY2048 and PHY2049) and received the Physics Award in 2011 from Miami Dade College. I've taken and received A's in Methods in Theoretical Physics, Modern Physics 1 and 2, Classical Mechanics 1 and 2, Solid State Physics, and Thermodynamics at FIU.

Prealgebra

I've been tutoring Pre-Algebra since 2009 and physical science since 2010.
