About Louis

Dear Student:
I am delighted that you took a look at my profile and I hope to be in touch with you to discuss your tutoring needs.

I am a tutor in the following subjects: Arabic, English, and Translation (Arabic/English and vice versa), literature, and social sciences. I have all the required credentials and experience to professionally teach these topics. I have a B.A. in English (Literature, Linguistics and Translation) from the University of Baghdad, a master’s degree in English (World Literature) from Lehigh University, a Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology from Duke University.

My work experience includes teaching languages, translation, interpreting and cultural advising since 2003. I have held positions such as a Linguist, Cultural Advisor and the Head of Translators with the U.S. Army, U.S. Embassy Office, and several INGOs.

After obtaining my graduate degree in English literature, I worked as an Arabic Language Expert/Content Author at Rosetta Stone and taught Arabic language for a cross-cultural program at the university level in Virginia. Currently, I continue to work in the field by tutoring students Arabic and English as well as teaching different levels of Arabic courses at the university level. I am highly experienced with teaching Alif Baa, Al-Kitab and other key textbooks. I also design my own materials that delve deeply into Arabic grammar, creative writing and other parts of the language, and depending on students personal needs and level of advancement.

Lastly, I would like to let you know that I always make sure to dedicate the first session to evaluate the student's needs and their level to design the teaching plan accordingly.

I am very much looking forward to hearing from you and discussing your plans!

Kind regards,
Louis

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anthropology

I hold a master's degree in Cultural Anthropology from Duke University and I am currently an advanced PhD candidate in the same field. Expected graduation: 2017.

Great Tutor

My sessions with Louis have been fantastic! He challenges you, makes you work on your weaknesses while highlighting your strengths in a way that is encouraging and helpful. He puts a lot of thought into all aspects of teaching a language: - - into the appropriate word or phrasing for the context and tone of what you are trying to say - - into the materials he uses - - into the vocabulary and g
