I attended the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and graduated in 2002 with a Bachelor's degree in French with a minor in Spanish and also with teacher licensure (K-12) in North Carolina. I taught French and Spanish at the high school level for 4 years in Pender County, NC and I also re-enrolled in the university to complete a Spanish major. I taught middle school for 8 years and now work for the district central office as the World Languages Curriculum Specialist for grades K-12. I also have many years of tutoring experience.

This is the second summer that my son has worked with Melissa. Ben was very excited at the beginning of the summer to get to go to weekly lessons with Melissa again this summer. I think that speaks very highly of how fun Melissa makes each lesson. Ben has also commented how much he would like Melissa to be his "real" Spanish teacher in school so I can't be more pleased!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
